Bill – I don’t think Chicago has much desire to buy anymore Pierce’s. Those Pierce trucks have been total garbage for years! Horrible corrosion issues! Complete junk! They would be smart to stay away from Pierce!

I know about 3 years ago I went there to nfd station 4 and they still had the freightliner

It would be nice if Chicago did a comparison between E/One and Pierce engines. The CFD had a large fleet of Pierce trucks but no engines. The two spare Pierce engines at O’Hare are exceptions. I understand that Pierce won’t have anything to do with Chicago anymore. I wouldn’t be surprised if that had to do with the last time Chicago requested bids for trucks around 2009. They rejected two rounds within a year before requesting a third set of bids nearly a year after the initial bid.
Ferrara, Spartan/Erv, Pierce, and E/One submitted bids. E/One and Pierce had the lowest bids followed by Spartan/ERV, and Ferrara was the highest. The lowest and the second lowest bidder didn’t get the contract. I could see Pierce finally getting fed up with Chicago after submitting three bids within a year and getting rejected.

Naperville making a return to the use of the Federal Q? And is the bell requested or just an ornament for this manufacturer experiment? Either way, always good to see both on a rig! Looks nice.

I believe the whole reason they are testing the two is because they want their rigs serviced at the dealership?
#6 by Michael m on April 17, 2018 - 10:58 PM
I believe the current Engine 3 is a 2008 Spartan ERV and Engine 4 is a 2010 Spartan ERV
#7 by Michael m on April 17, 2018 - 10:56 PM
They want to compare two different manufacturers Pierce and E-one
#8 by Mike C on April 17, 2018 - 10:45 PM
Why was Spartan ERV not considered? Seems like the old Crimson’s held up quite well.

How is the progress coming on the Pierce engine for Engine 4?
#10 by Michael M on April 17, 2018 - 6:12 PM
It turned out nice!

Since it has been completed, I am guessing it will be in Naperville in the next few weeks?

Looks good! That’s a long light bar! Takes up the whole width of the cab! Love it!

I do like even thought it is a red engine I prefer non tradional rigs like tarrytown ny palm beach gardens fl and coal city il just to name a few

This engine has been completed and the Final Inspection was completed. This is on the Typhoon chasis and has a 750 gallon tank.
