I’m sure you could ask but you could ask 3 people the same question and get 7 or more different answers.

I hope that the black/red concept for Chicago does not fade away. I have spent some time with the cfd and the appearance of the rigs is striking. It’s like with the fdny, tradition is vital for departments to keep its members proud and helps instill pride within each and every person involved. Take care John

So many people on here speculate about the reasons they’re not longer using the black. Has anyone thought about trying to ask someone within CFD who made the decision to get an answer rather than speculating about it all the time?

The vinyl wraps are easy and inexpensive. Almost all black and white squad cars come all black from the factory and the white and graphics are all a vinyl wrap added by the department before putting the vehicle into service. I don’t work for Chicago but my grandfather retired from CFD and I know they are an agency steeped in tradition…….kinda sad to see it go. At least the apparatus are still black over red.

North Palos FPD utilized black vinyl wrap for the roof tops on the 3 Tahoes they have.

Can’t they even vinyl wrap the top black? It isn’t that expensive, CFD vehicles without a black over red just don’t look right.

At least the bottom portion is black.
