Big Moe – Spot on. Romeoville is no Chicago. At least the Romeoville Rosenbauer won’t get as much use and the roads in Romeoville aren’t so beat up so it’ll probably hold up better than the Chicago rigs. When all said and done, we have an incredibly diversified apparatus market in the USA. I just can’t believe this is the best option Romeoville could come up with.
The Smeal ladder that Romeoville has probably works pretty good for them. 100′ straight sticks with a lot of compartment space. I hope they keep this ladder.

Mike C, exactly. I’ve said the same for Frankfort and Hinsdale as well. Chicago is another world. Short setbacks vacant lots, alleys, etc. I think you could do better with a Sutphen SP70 or similar and be much more effective. CFD should into them as well.

Mike C, I do think there is something to be said about how often Chicago runs their rigs and how often. Now, I’m not defending the snorkel or Rosenbauer because they are worse version of a 75’ truck with more cabinets and room overall and are just outdated. Not sure if it will end up being worth it especially for the amount of money their spending on it.

This probably was answered but are they keeping the other ladder? I could see keeping the other ladder and having this set up as an engine / squad with the snorkel for TRT purposes along with fireground ops. I’m not sure how they’re gonna set up the hose layouts on this but I guess we will find out.

This is one rig I can’t seem to figure out why Romeoville would buy. Limited reach and functionality. The quality and reliability with the Chicago rigs have been awful so if this rig performs anything like the Chicago rigs, Romeoville will be unhappy too! I’m sure when the next administration comes in they’ll probably say this purchase was a horrible decision and get rid of it.
