I don’t see the city buy anything but Eone anytime soon. Fleet wants to streamline everything as far as parts and service goes. And we have had good history with Eone. As far as squads there have been several ideas in the past few years about direction. Ie. Snorkels, squirts, heavy rescue. I personally believe that the two piece box and snorkels work very well for us, and hope they stay the course. But it really boils down to money and fleet. The Rosenbaure rigs have issues to long to list here.

If cfd would start looking at other smaller brands like fouts Alexis Ferrera maybe they could get new rigs quicker

Has the city had major issues with the squads?

Rich S., do you see the city ever buying Rosenbauers again?

This is a real scandal that is going on and the City seems to be going to “Hell in Handbasket”. It just came out with in the last few days that Chicago is running with an even higher deficit than was first thought. When the department of Fleet Management can’t even keep decent spares for the Squads, let alone Engines Trucks and Towers there is something wrong.
Memphis Tennessee has been running with 3 Single Piece “Rescue companies” and they are using 54 real Snorkels as opposed to the Cobra type Snorkels that we are using. Maybe we can learn something from them.
The 3 Memphis Rescues are’t real new in fact the newest one is a 2018 Smeal Sirius with a 54 foot Snorkel. The other 2 Rescues are a 2007 Pierce and an 1996 E/One which are older than the Smeal model.

That’s a shame Rich S. I would’ve thought the city would’ve at least had all the old snorkels & squad boxes refurbished and kept as spares.

Again the city of Chicago ( fleet or CFD) will not buy used apparatus. There are not enough spare engines and trucks to be modified for use by squads. They are all being used by engines and trucks. The city should have 4 new squad boxes and snorkels on order now as the current rigs are NOT going to last anywhere near as long as the HME rigs did. There are NO spare snorkels all have been junked. The problem is it takes to long to get them built and the finance department and fleet drag feet for fire rigs. Our fleet is in shambles at best.

Wayne, I was talking about the fact that airport spares are unable to be used by non-airport companies.

5-1-1 has their ALF back.
Squad 7 can and frequently does leave the airport. It changes quarters and responds to runs in the city and even the suburbs near O’Hare frequently. I don’t think the spare squad can be used for city fire companies but it is used for 5-1-2 as a spare as well as Squad 7.
