Production has started on the chassis for Romeoville FD Engine 22, a Rosenbauer Commander, extruded aluminum 55Ft. ACP with a 1,500-GPM Pump and a 500 gallons of water.

BIG Moe they have been at almost every Mabas 22 fire I’ve been to, along with that they typically aren’t change of quarters from what I’ve seen, also they don’t see much work in 21 unless they are in place of 44

Squad 5 is a CoQ unit on Blue islands “Working Fire” level and goes to the scene at the Box level. I haven’t seen them work that much in Div. 22. I have no knowledge of their activity in Div. 21.

I can confirm that EPFD Squad 5 is the reserve truck CO. when 44 is OOS, Along with that It is on a ton of box cards. Especially in Blue Island where it is due on all of their working fires due to its ability to maneuverer in the tight streets of Blue Island.

Moe–I live in Evergreen Park, but not part of their FD. The only things I can say about their snorkel are:
1–I believe it is the backup aerial when Truck 44 is OOS.
2–It is on a lot of box cards in the area.

Other than training and maybe show n tell, the snorkel portion will get very little use on the fire ground. I would be surprised if it’s even used on the fire ground more than once every few years. I hope Romeoville keeps the Smeal ladder too which is a much more practical truck.

Waste of time and money. See Frankfort. They will spend years lugging that thing around to trouble alarms, EMS calls, traffic accidents and never use it. It works in the city due to the lack of setbacks and plethera of vacant lots to set up on. It will have next to no horizontal reach and when its used for vertical reach, the turntable will be inthe collapse zone. max horizontal reach is about 25 feet at 50% elevation, and 5 feet at max or lowest elevation. Plus the city actually has lots of extra alarm fires where master streams are deployed. Romeoville? Not so much. I haven’t seen Evergreen Parks unit being used regularly. maybe itis.

Oh I don’t know if they’re replacing a truck with it. I just assumed an engine since it is set up as an engine with no extra ground ladders. I thought everyone figured out by the 80s that you couldn’t replace a truck with a snorkel, let alone a 55 footer at that.

It will be interesting to see how this holds up being utilized as an engine. Are they chasing the ambo with it? That’s a lot of moving parts just to help load a belly ache in to a van lol. Then again, people are sending much larger quint tower ladders on similar runs.
