True – That goes for the 75′ quints too. Junk!

Adding onto what the DH is saying, single axle trucks work great! Adding a pump and a tank adds a lot of weight and more opportunities for problems. As mentioned before, the only way Pierce can put a pump and tank on a 107′ ladder truck is by making everything lightweight. Pierce advertises their Ascendant as a heavy duty ladder when in fact it might be a medium duty at best.

Mike G. Here is something you can look into. I’ve been a scanner nut for 42 years now and while it’s not quite the same, it’s certainly better than nothing.

Michael M – you typically run into weight issues when trying to make a single axle 100′ quint. These are straight trucks. Boston, Chicago, Cincinnati have all run single axle sticks successfully. Just look at the early 90s Seagraves the city is still beating up.

I wonder how these single axle trucks will hold up in the long run. I am surprised that companies can get away with building a aerial ladder on a singe axle. I would think that with the weight of the aerial, doubble axle would be required.

Thank you all for all the station information Im from Boston but have family in the area so I always like to keep up to date Now if we could only listen on a scanner LOL

I worked with Deputy chief’s father back in the day. He was a local legend and must be beaming with pride that his son is DC. Great career there Mark. His dad’s famous “what, are you pimpin’ me?” quote still makes me smile to this day.

Tyler
You are on with most of your info but final locations have yet to be determined. A study is/was being done to see where the best placement will be to ensure coverage of the entire city. I do know the city owns quite a bit of property on the east side so there are lots of options. The hope is to break ground on 4s before the end of the year.

No exact dates on when this is happening besides between now and 2026
They are rebuilding Station 4 and Station 9
Station 4 will be moved to Farnsworth & Indian Trail area
Station 9 will be moved to Eola and Indian Trail Area
Station 13 will be built at Farnsworth and Bilter
Station 13 will be E13, M13, T14 (All brand new rigs)
Station 4 will be the new administrative building
Station 9 will remain a single engine house also, but once Medic 13 is built it will temporarily run out of St 9 till the new St 13 is built.

Where will the other 2 stations be built. On the map it looks like station 13 will be near the Chicago Premium Outlets off of 88. From their current map, they could probably use a new station on the southwest side and southeast side. Or will the put one on the east side to divide up Station 8’s area?
Will the other two stations be 14 and 15? Strange how they number their stations. They have 9 but their numbers go up to 12.

Mike G,
They haven’t started building the new Station 13 just yet, all 3 new stations will be done and built between now and 2026.
Station 13 will be at Farnsworth Ave and Bilter Rd
