Harry, what the heck are you talking about? We have a 105,000,000$ contract with E-one the entire fleet is going to E-one. The Mayor has nothing to do with the manufacture of fire apparatus we use. And fleet wants to have all the same parts and problems in the fleet. The Pierce trucks are almost 20 years old and the main aerials are all rusted out. We have older E-ones and Seagrave trucks that are not rusted out. I don’t think we will ever buy Pierce again. Nor should we!!

i would be willing to bet that if chicago gets a new mayor and other fire officals that decide what rigs to buy i bet they go back to pierce i hope not because of the fact that they have quite a few new eone rigs but time will tell

Rusty, I’m not a fan of the
“P“ apparatus , but the last thing I want is a pencil pusher specing and buying a vehicle they know nothing about and will never and have never operated. If the right mix of members think and plan out a rig for operational use and not to have all the toys or the new great things everyone else is getting then they should be able to get a good rig for the needs.

Westmont’s old Quantum was a 2002.

These Dept.’s are unbelievable. They have to get rid of a truck because it has problems but they will order another one. Any reasonable person would not buy another. And with that particular truck they paid a premium to have that P on the grille! They need to have a business person buy these trucks. Not some fireman who blindly buys one brand or another.

The 2013 Quantum is currently serving the city of Highland Park Michigan. Westmont is running in a 2017 Velocity.

Nothing is set in stone yet but I believe they are probably the front runner as the department is all Pierce now. Hopefully the new rig doesn’t have issues like the current one. Especially when the cost is going to be around 11-15% additional to last year. And with a 22-24 month sign to delivery time.

Is Pierce going to be building the new Tower ladder?
#12 by Rich S. on February 27, 2022 - 10:31 AM
The current Truck is coming up on its 7 year lease. With the delivery time of 22-24 months at this time they are going to spec a new rig. At this time the thought is going reorder a Tower and not a stick. The current Truck will not be staying with the department. It has had issues and has been down fairly frequently.

Westmont is getting a new tower ladder? Didn’t the department just receive a stick a few years ago? Are they going back to running 2 truck companies again?

yes, Engine 181, 183 are already repainted black over red and the Squad is now in to be completely refurbished and painted black over red. The new Tower Ladder will also be the new paint scheme when delivered.
