Excerpts from abc7chicago.com:
A Chicago firefighter was critically injured battling a fire on the Northwest Side early Thursday morning, while two other people were also hurt in the blaze, and one died.
The fire broke out just after 2 a.m. in the basement of a two-story apartment building in the 3100-block of North Marmora Avenue. The civilian victims included two men and a woman who were taken to Loyola University Medical Center. All three suffered burns and were critically injured.
Officials later said one person died after the fire, but did not specify who it was.
The firefighter, who has been with the department for only a year, was taken to Community First Hospital, and was later transferred to Loyola, as well. Chicago fire officials said he needed to be intubated because his throat is severely burned.
