Speaking of putting a tower ladder back at Engine 72’s house, it seems as if the fire department’s management is content with running only 10 tower ladders in Chicago if you include Tower Ladder 63 at O’Hare.
While making Truck 24 into a tower ladder makes sense since the far south side could use one, it would be a good idea if Truck 34 remained as a tower ladder company. The issue of many low railroad viaducts was used as an excuse for making them into a regular truck company because they had several accidents, however they had been a tower ladder for 34 years. If the underpasses were that serious of an issue the change would have been made years ago.
Alternatively, if the underpasses in Truck 34’s district are that bad of a problem, a good solution would be to purchase them a mid-mount tower ladder which E/One offers. They have a lower travel height. Even if it were a one-of-a-kind rig, what’s the problem with that? It might even be good for Chicago to purchase more than one mid-mount as there are quite a few viaducts spread around the city with restricted clearances.
So lets see if the CFD is willing to purchase a mid-mount tower ladder or do they only have “Tunnel Vision”?

The only talk was the locals protesting it. i never heard any thing from anyone who would know of planning to put a tower back there.

Any word about putting a Tower back? I remember that there was some talk about it but haven’t seen anything yet?
