While Chicago is just like any other big city, it could be worse. Atlanta is down to 3 guys a rig and their fleet is in such bad shape they have ZERO spares. Engine 1/ Truck 1 has been shut down….both rigs out for maintenance. Truck 1 hasn’t had a rig to drive for weeks. They brown out companies from either a lack of manpower or no rigs to operate. They run KMEs which are complete junk (according to Atlanta guys). At least CFD has some type of replacement plan, albeit slow.

What CFD needs is an ambulance contract. Ambulances with 150K plus miles on it, with no working AC up front. It’s pathetic that Chicago can’t keep a solid schedule of replacing its rigs.

the fire academy will always have one of the newest generation of engines at the academy. giving them a new rig that was added onto an order doesnt change the companies that need rigs. the city has lacked behind in ordering and replacement for years.

DH I know that but when a ton of companies are in spares take for example engine 19 they haven’t been in their rigs since around may or July or Truck 36 They’ve been in 5 spares and haven’t had their rig since July of 2020 They went through a piece of shit Seagrave/a 2000 E-one/Truck 3s old rig(a seal broke and it went in for maintenance saying it would be given back and gave it to truck 1)/Then were given a 2000 Pierce with a half broken suspension/Finally they are back in a decent 2002 Pierce. TRAINING RIGS DON’T MATTER UNTIL THE CITY ACTUALLY REPLACES COMPANIES.

Chicagoland, if I had to guess, it would be so they can train the candidates on the current equipment. As well as the engineers test practicals.

Why does the academy keep getting new rigs they have a 2002 and 2012 engine an a 2002 and 2014 truck

CFD added a 9th engine on to that order and that will be assigned to the CFD academy.

It is unclear when the 2003 American LaFrance Hazmat units will be replaced. They should be replaced within the next few years.

When will the city replace the Hazmat rigs?

CFD has 8 new engines, 8 new 100′ rear-mount aerial ladder trucks and one new 100′ rear-mount tower ladder on order from E-One and they are expected to arrive in early 2022. CFD also has nine new Ford Explorer Police Interceptor SUVs on order.

I saw two unmarked e-one Rma’s in the shops a couple weeks ago so I think they have 2 new delveries

This is one of the rigs from the 2020 batch of 7 engine companies I believe.hopefully, they will re-start building more rigs next year. Hell we all know the CFD fleet is in need of new rigs. I have to say at least they were able to get quite a few rigs replaced before the world went to hell.
By my count, between 2016 and 2020 they replaced
4 Squads
6 Tower ladders (TL 63 replaced this year)
The Dive rescue unit
Several Ambulances
Several chiefs buggies
13 Trucks
23 Engines
Not bad, still given how Chicago beats up their rigs, they need more.

That really looks sharp. Nothing like a rig posed in front of quarters.
