2-Alarm house fire in Buffalo Grove, 8-26-20

Buffalo Grove police and firefighters were called to 25 Dellmont Court today (8/26/20) for a house fire. First arriving units had fire from a roof vent of a two-story, single-family house. The alarm was upgraded to a Code 4 working fire and then to a MABAS Box Alarm for additional resources. Companies advanced several lines into the house and had difficulty gaining access to the attic. The fire self vented through the rear with flames and heavy smoke pushing out. An exterior line was used to darken down the fire before companies were again able to make an interior attack. The alarm was later elevated to a 2nd Alarm for additional manpower due to the excessive heat. Two firefighters were transported from the scene with heat related injuries.

Two Buffalo Grove engines and Long Grove Tanker 55 were on hydrants. An incomplete list of mutual aid companies includes units from Long Grove, Prospect Heights, Wheeling, Palatine, Countryside, Libertyville Lake Forest, Grayslake, Highland Park, Schaumburg, Mount Prospect, Deerfield, Northbrook, Lake Villa, Lake Zurich, Hoffman Estates, and Winnetka.

Carol Stream Fire District news

Excerpts from Fox32chicago.com:

A man has been charged with setting fire to his family’s home last week in Carol Stream. The fire was reported about 10 a.m. Aug. 19 in the 700 block of Aztec Drive. Witnesses told investigators a man in black clothing was seen leaving the home carrying a black bag as the fire started. The man, later identified as Kashyf H. Syed, stole a bicycle from a nearby school and rode south into Armstrong Park. When police approached him, he allegedly became combative and injured one officer before he was taken into custody.

Police said Syed used gasoline to start the fire in the home where he lives with his family before fleeing with some personal items. The family was not home at the time and no injuries were reported. He is charged with felony counts of residential arson, aggravated battery to a peace officer, and aggravated resisting arrest, plus a misdemeanor count of theft. His bail was set at $300,000 during a hearing Aug. 21 at the DuPage County Courthouse. Syed, 25, remains in custody and is due back in court Oct. 19.

The Carol Stream Fire Protection District was able to extinguish the blaze, but the house was rendered uninhabitable.

3-Alarm fire in Glendale Heights, 8-24-20

This from Steve Redick:

I took in the Glendale Heights extra alarm. I saw a big column of smoke most of the way there but because it is such a long run it was all over when I arrived. Limited access to more than half the building and a heavy volume of fire were some of the issues. I understand there were two fatalities.

I had a great opportunity to get a lot of nice apparatus shots.
