It’s interesting that this batch of E/Ones is allowing the CFD to take the last of the 2000 E/One trucks out of front line service.
There is a pretty good chance that Truck 40’s first-due still district could be enlarged later this year when they open Engine 115’s new house. That depends on whether or not they close Truck 24’s house and move the them in with Engine 115. Most sources have been saying that Truck 24 might be converted to a tower ladder when and if they are relocated to Engine 115. That is not a certainty as I have heard speculation that Engine 75 could be taken out of service which would allow a new truck or tower ladder to go in service with Engine 115. That would leave Truck 24 where they are. No one knows what will happen though until they open Engine 115’s new house.

for future information… All of the lettering is done at the dealership over in Northwest Indiana. Of all the new rigs that have arrived since 2015. The only lettering that A man house was the numbering on the tower ladder baskets.

How did a thread about Chicago aerials devolve into a post about Hoffman Estates and Palatine? Stick to the topic, gentlemen. Start a new thread elsewhere.

Considering that Tower Ladder 22 only runs with a two-man crew then the squad probably will be a jump company. It is pretty ridiculous to run only one man per vehicle. I don’t know if this is still the case but I a few years the Palatine tower ladder and squad ran as a two-piece company so they must have had at least three or four assigned to Tower Ladder 85.

Unless things have changed Hoffman estates staffs the following
Engine 21: 3 ambulance 21: 2
Engine 22: 2 Truck 22: 2 ambulance 22: 2 when they had squad 22 it was also staffed with 2
Engine 23: 3 ambulance 23: 2
Engine 24: 3 ambulance 24: 2
For a while before the market crash in 2008 they did have engine, truck, squad and ambulance 22 all staffed with 2 each. District 22 always seemed to be very busy and I could never figure out why with palatine rural 36, and barrington they just didn’t move ambulance 23 to station 22 and leave engine 23 a single engine house and have PAL rural or barrington respond if no Hoffman estates ambulance wasn’t available.

Unless something changed over the years, Hoffman Estates has usually just run with two personnel on the truck/tower ladder.

It’s a shame Truck 40’s getting a new truck. Never seen a truck company drive so slow to a still.

If you go to maintainer custom website under delivery you will see S22 it is 2019 chevy 4×4

Jeremy do you know how many men Hoffman Estates Truck 22 normally runs with? Is it three like most local departments or less?

Bill, yes, I was talking about the new medium-duty Chevy Silverado squad. EMS equipment is only held within the cab. It’s intended for EMS chase and vehicle extrication mainly and is equipped as such. Has some cribbing, airbags, chocks, 2 sets of electric cutters and spreaders, an electric ram, and Res-Q-Jacks. It also has some saws and hand tools.
They pulled the vehicle extrication gear off of the tower and placed it in service on the new squad. I’m gonna guess based on that, the squad is a jump for the tower on EMS and collision calls, probably hoping to save some mileage on the tower.

Thanks for the information David and Jeremy. So I was correct because I too could have sworn reading that they were getting rid of their two squads.
Jeremy I assume the squad you are talking about is the new Chevy. Does it have enough space to carry heavy rescue gear or is it strictly an EMS chase rig? It sounds to me like it may be an alternate response vehicle that they might use in place of the truck or engine as a first responder company.
As you guys are more familiar with the the Hoffman Estates Fire Department, when they retired their previous Squad 22, did they transfer it’s equipment to Truck 22? Trucks in most departments end up doing the squad/rescue work. If Hoffman Estates needed a real squad at a scene they would probably call for Schaumburg Squad 55, a heavy rescue with dedicated manning.

Hoffman’s Squad 22 only seats 2, the rear seats had EMS supply storage fabricated for it. David is right about them not running a squad for a few years, they posted a video of both Squad 22 and 22R for sale in 2017 on the village’s YouTube channel.
Battalion 6 also got a new F250 with a utility-style box on the back. As far as I can tell, Station 22 is now Tower 22, Squad 22 / Ambulance 22 sharing a bay, and Engine 22 / Battalion 6 sharing the final bay. Not sure what they’re doing in terms of staffing everything though.

I believe Hoffman Estates got rid of both the Spartan and the Pierce that was the reserve squad a while ago, so I don’t think they’ve run a squad for a couple years. Interesting that they’re bringing it back and going with a smaller approach.

I am surprised about Hoffman Estates going back to a squad. I thought they went to an ambulance because they needed a second ambulance in that part of town. I know that when they had the ambulance, they ran it only when manning allowed. I don’t know if that’s the case now.

Bill is the new Hoffman Estates squad replacing Squad 22? It sounds to me like a step down from the Spartan Marion as the Chevy is a smaller rig. How do they run the it? As a jump company or as a second piece to Truck 22 like in Palatine? It is hard to imagine that they would run it with a dedicated crew.

I’m guessing that the number isn’t on the door because it takes a minute to do that. And the photo was taken during the time when the small 40 was done but the 40 on the door was not being worked on yet. A simple explanation.

Hoffman estates got a new squad built on a chevy 5500 chassis from maintainer

I am very sure they will still have the numbers on the door. I think Truck 30 just started service with their new rig with the numbers on the doors but I’m not sure. The plates are a very bad idea because they could fall off. I live near Engine 121 where Truck 40 is located. When the new trucks hit the streets very soon whether they have numbers on the doors or plates, They will serve the communities very well. I hear these trucks are very easy to maneuver and have a good turning radius. I just can’t wait to see those trucks in action!

No numbers on the door??
