Excerpts from the kenoshanews.com:

Kenosha Fire Station No. 1, located at the northwest corner of 22nd Avenue and 52nd Street, is expected to be completed and operational before Aug. 1. It is located at the former Bain Elementary School site. A capstone from the school — inscribed with Edward Bain School 1906 — and a mantel was saved during the demolition project. Both will be placed at the south entrance.

The new station will house 16 firefighters, two engine companies, one truck company, and two rescue squads (one active, one reserve). There will be a minimum of 12 personnel for each shift. Additional office space and a training room are also planned.

The $6.61 million project combines two aging stations into one, centrally located super station. There will be five stations with the addition of Station No. 1. Station No. 3 (2121 Roosevelt Road) and Station No. 5 (2125 Washington Road) will be vacated and repurposed by the city.

The medical unit from Station 5 will relocate to Station 6 (2615 14th Place) Other locations are Station 2 (8530 30th Ave.), Station 4 (4810 60th St.) and Station 7 (9700 52nd St.). Station No. 4 will remain the administrative site.

The city has coordinated rebuilding of the intersection of 52nd Street and 22nd Avenue to accommodate fire station traffic, as well as reconstruction of 22nd Avenue in that area.
