Excerpts from the DailyHerald.com:
In the weeks leading up to the Nov. 6 election, a residents group has been making its final push to spread the word about a proposed property tax increase for the Fox River and Countryside Fire/Rescue District.
The volunteers created a website, held informational meetings and increased their presence on social media. They handed out brochures during community events and communicated with homeowners associations. Most recently, they’ve been walking house to house to distribute door hangers in neighborhoods near St. Charles. The goal is to inform residents of the potential for reduced services if voters don’t approve a 16-cent tax rate increase for the cash-strapped district.
A binding referendum question on the ballot next week seeks to raise the property tax rate from 27 cents to 43 cents per $100 of equalized assessed value. If approved, the measure would generate at least an extra $1 million to replace aging equipment and bring staffing up to safe levels, Fire Chief John Nixon said.
Residents now have a second chance to vote on the tax hike, which would cost the owner of a $100,000 house an additional $53 a year.
Fire district officials for years have been grappling with how to operate on their existing tax rate, which they say is the lowest in the area. The fire board decided this spring to cut three part-time firefighter positions and a handful of full-time positions were eliminated two years ago. If voters say no again, trustees will be faced with determining how to pay for necessary vehicle repairs, replace equipment and continue operating on what they say is insufficient funding.
That likely would mean cutting more positions and browning out one of its two stations on a rotating basis.

So lets look into this a little deeper.
1. I’ve seen posts on facebook asking if the department spitefully staffs less guys at station 2 in campton and more in station 1. That is correct. They have had 6 guys at 1 and 2 guys at station 2 multiply times.
2. Not sure if anyone else caught it but they repainted the top of one of their engines black. I assume because they haven’t a original idea in their head and want to look like Chicago. But the question I ask is if they are so broke and cant afford to staff guys, then how can they pay for something so trivial as a paint job.
3. Smoke a dagger like any contract your paying almost half to line the pockets of the owners in this case I believe it is PSI as PSSI sold all their contracts to them
4. IAFF brothers who are no longer brothers or who don’t care about the hard work that the AFFI and IAFF have done to secure benefits for them and their families. Whom choose to spit in the face of every union member to support that place.
5. The corrupt practice of that organizations management and so called senior leadership. Would love to see some of those guys experience’s and training records.
6. For the people who live in that district know one and simple thing. Nothing you see is real. They claim all PSI employees are medics well that’s a lie. They claim they are as qualified as career departments but how can they be with the revolving door of employees.
The sad thing is if the vote goes NO (which it should) the people who are running that training wreck will blame the citizens and punish you. Instead when they should close up shop and dissolve the department.

I agree. I hope the referendum fails so that the residents of this district can stop paying more money for inadequate service. The referendum passing will just mean more taxpayer dollars going into the pockets of a private company who has no interest in anything except making money. Shut it down and let the surrounding districts handle it.

St. Charles isn’t a district and likely won’t get/take any of it back. The old St Charles Fire Prot. Dist. was disolved when FRC was created. The FRC would have to be split up to various FPD’s. Elburn, S. Elgin, West Chicago, Bartlett, etc.

I am guessing South Elgin would get the part of the district along 25. St Charles would get the part off of 64. Maybe Bartlett or West Chicago would get Wayne?

Break that district up. They poorly managed and missed use of tax players money. How many has this been brought. 4,5,6, I head of no changes on their part.

If they decide to disband the district then the State Fire Marshall is responsible for dividing up the district amongst the neighboring districts. Reportedly the neighboring districts have already met and agreed on what they would be willing to take on.

If it shuts down, who will take over or wants to take over? I thought St. Charles didn’t want to do it again?

I agree, Mike! Shut this department down! Not even worth trying to salvage at this point.

So when this fails on Tuesday maybe someone will finally end this disaster and do what’s right for the taxpayers that have had to suffer through this failure since it’s inception.
