Excerpts from the KaneCountyChronicle.com:
Geneva firefighters are due to receive 25 new sets of turnout gear at a cost of more than $50,000. Aldermen voted unanimously to approve the expenditure Jan. 16.
The new gear is replacing out-of-date and worn-out gear for 25 members of the department. Each set costs nearly $2,000, based on the lowest qualified bid from W.S. Darley. Gear includes helmets, gloves, coats, pants, hoods, and boots. Depending on use and wear, some gear has to be retired before the 10-year anniversary date.
The National Fire Protection Association recommends gear be retired after 10 years after the date of manufacture.
