Great discussion guys, but does anybody have a definitive answer as to why Hoffman is getting rid of their squads?

Tried to post this before, unsuccessfully. Squad hasn’t been a jump company for 25 years. New tower, which has been out of service more than in, has a pump with no tank or attack lines. Go figure.

The new Tower definitely has a pump

Weren’t the squads a jump company and not fully staffed?

Hey Andy you sure the new tower doesn’t have a pump? I’ve seen it on the street and it sure looked like it had a pump panel. Also, a posting on this website from 11-17-16 that came from Ferrara’s website lists a pump on the specs. I would really like to know what’s going on in Hoffman that they are getting rid of the squads

Gary Fire could buy that 06 squad with some of claim payout from the loss on the former Engine 1 and have a decent Squad 2 replacement. Just a thought..sure some would agree.

Andy, did they order the new tower with a tank and pump? All the pics I’ve seen it has a pump.

Why don’t they just have the engine chase the ambulance at 22? That makes no sense!
#10 by Ron on August 16, 2017 - 6:10 PM
I read on there website that they are getting a dodge van to chase the ambulance

He photo of the new tower has a pump on it. Unless they got rid of the pump after the photo was taken.

Interesting that they were able to get rid of the squads with the new tower ladder. I drive by station 22 on a regular basis and I still see them in the Pierce tower. I believe they took delivery of the tower in November? Now there is a ambulance in the bay where the squad was

Wow–that is quite a switch for HEFD. I spent a lot of time there from the mid 90s until the mid 2000s and was there when they put all those rigs in service originally. They really prided themselves on having those squads. How times have changed!
Wonder what the manpower distribution looks like at each station. I would think it would only really impact Station 22, but I could be wrong.

are they even using the new tower?? i keep seeing them in the pierce rig everytime they are on the street??

I like that bold color combo on 22.
While 11 years is a bit young to get rid of a suburban rig, at least it wasn’t only 2 years old like another community.

No more squad(s). The new tower ladder came with no pump or water tank so all the extra space was used to put equipment from the squad on the truck and manpower was redistributed.

They are selling both squads?? What happened?? Did they decide to just go with an engine, tower ladder, ambulance and the BC out of station 22 now? Or is there a new squad on order?
