This from Steve Redick:
The parade of dollar store fires continues. This occurred on September 12, at Jackson & Kedzie. The construction was described as light weight, and I believe this same mall was burned several years ago as well. Access was somewhat difficult as this was right by a major CTA bus barn and the Eisenhower Expressway causing a real traffic snarl. At the height of the fire TL 5, TL14, Squad 2, Eng 44’s deck gun, 661, the turret wagon and the hose wagon were all in use.Squad 2’s Snorkel was enveloped in a fireball when a portion of the roof collapsed and the members were injured although I believe in minor fashion. The rig became dead in the water. They used the winch from the pie-wagon piece of Squad 2 to try to pull the Snorkel away from the building … an interesting operation to watch. The photo of the reserve Snorkel and the new TL 14 depicts the oldest and newest rigs in the fleet working together … kinda neat. All of the images and the video can be viewed here.Steve

Seems like Turret 673 and Reserve Snorkel 1 are getting a pretty good work out lately….

Why was squad 2 putting its winch over to squad 2a?

I guess it is good that Chicago will be getting new squads soon! It sounds like the ones they have are on their last leg.
