why don’t they go back to having squads for each district?

The district assignment probably does not match the working fire response any more than the district boundaries match the deputy ddc’s still and box districts.
Renumbering the vans to match the district assignments seems rather uncessary and quite trivial to me. One might conclude that they have nothing better to do at HQ.
Why are the squads exempt from this?

How long of a ride will it be for 2-7-1 to go to a working fire on 66th and Western? That’s still part of the 1st District.

278 is now 273

I think they meant that 278 was only renumbered and the van itself is still in service.

2-7-8 is gone now? did they sell it off?

That has to be quite a ride for 271 to go to fires in engine 116’s still district..

278 no longer exists & 279 is for special events like lollapalooza , taste of chicago , bud billiken , shit like that

Each command van is matched with the district they are in . 271 = 1st district (Eng42)
272 = 2nd district (Eng112) 273 = O’Hare 3rd district (R3) 274 = 4th district (Eng49) 275 = 5th district (Eng122) . Same firehouses, same vans, just renumbered .

Is this an added command van for the far south side? Take pressure off the others?
