MABAS21:
Oh, I agree with extra wear and tear. My only beef is that I don’t believe the Willow Springs residents should have to pay extra for the Roberts Park ambulance when the incident is in their district.
If I’m the Willow Springs resident, I have probably have a resident fee for ambo service if I take a ride to the hospital. (Whereas if someone from a different town needs a ride to the hospital in Willow Springs, they would be charged a non-resident fee.) That’s because my taxes are going to my fire department or district.
Now, Tri-State’s ambos are tied up, and I have an emergency call. Roberts Park shows up at my Willow Springs residence to transport me. I’m paying for Tri-State services that I’m not receiving and now I’m being billed because Tri-State won’t staff another ambo?
I know this isn’t in the spirit of mutual aid, but Roberts Park and Bedford Park should be charging Tri-State the extra wear and tear. Watch how fast another ambo would go into service at Tri-State.
Under the current model with Roberts Park and Bedford going to WS so often, you’re tying up those resources. And, if I’m in the Roberts Park or Bedford districts (as a resident), I think I’m a little upset that my local resources are being tied up elsewhere so often (I completely get major incidents and the like).
There’s no perfect solution to all this for all parties… I get it. To me, if I call and need an ambo in my own town, I simply wouldn’t expect to pay an out-of-town fee if another town’s ambo shows up. ESPECIALLY when you have a department that is consistently relying on another town on a regular basis to cover their inadequate staffing.

Robert:
You state that Roberts Park and Bedford charge nicely. Who are they billing? The residents?
I know Roberts Park has a high ambo fee for non-residents. But, I would assume that’s when its in their boundaries.
Now, if Roberts Park goes in to Willow Springs on a mutual aid call, I don’t think it’s right if they charge the resident the non-resident fee. It’s not the resident’s fault RP was called in to their hometown and Tri-State doesn’t have adequate staffing.
At least I think that’s what you are trying to suggest is the case here.

Tom, that is a common practice for most fire departments to charge both resident and
non-resident fees. Think about it, Roberts Park is putting additional wear and tear on their ambulance, using extra fuel and taking away an ambulance from the residents of THEIR district that pay taxes for that ambulance to be available for their use.

Who dispatches for Tri-State anyway is it Pleasentview? Does Pleasentview also dispatch for Hinsdale? Who dispatches for Bedford Park?

I agree they really should look at adding a 3rd Ambulance. Also why sell that station anyway? How far is that area from other fire stations? How far is that area away from Willow Springs?
They should have found a way to keep that station open at least with a Ambulance.

Bedford Park is also stuck handling EMS runs in Willow Springs when RP is tied up. Maybe the chief’s of those 2 departments should tally up the amount of times they’re called into Tri-State and demand they place a 3rd ambulance in service. Justice and Bedford Park residents aren’t paying for their fire departments to cover Willow Springs. Total abuse of Mutual Aid!

Listening to the radio calls, seems they should really consider adding an ambulance in Willow Springs. Roberts Park gets tapped a lot for their ambo.

Did the Fire Prevention offices that were located there move to the Willow Springs station?
