NFPA now requires walkway lighting on aerials which makes seeing the stick / tower in the air easier regardless of color

This may be “water under the bridge” but why did they go to a black Tower Ladder ? Whats the advantage of it? At least a white Tower Ladder stands out and is more visible in the dark amongst the smoke. White Aerials and Tower Ladders are more practical and that is one of the reasons why many fire departments get them that way.

Steve Redick got some shots of the new Niles Truck 2 working at a fire in Park Ridge this morning. They are on his Facebook page. So all delays aside, it’s now in service. He stated it was it’s first fire.

So bottom line: Pierce made a BOO-BOO building that thing, then made the fix? So is the sunuvabitch current being housed at station 2 as PLANNED? …& if so, is station 2’s roof still INTACT to cover it??

After all of that I just Tower 2 on the radio going on an ambulance run.

That’s great that the issue was fixed. Is it still at Pierce? Is it at Niles now?

BG tower fits in the center bay only. A couple years ago one of the guys went to pull it in the wrong bay which ws too short…..
NILES Tower fits in the station, minimal clearance however, it fits. When they originally took delivery, Pierce put it on the wrong frame so it did not fit. Pierces fault, they took it back and made the the fix.

If I were a tax payer in that area, I think I’d be asking some well-educated questions.

Just as a point of reference, they received the tower ladder on July 30, 2014. It went down to public works the next day and hasn’t been seen for any significant time since.

Buffalo Grove’s newest ladder had that same problem I believe. I believe they were backing it in and they found out the hard way.

What a COLASSAL MESS this all is

What I indersatnd was there are clearance issues at the firehouse. They put in their spec that it was supposed to be a certain height. To obtain this certain height required them to modify the rear suspension. Well the rear suspension was put together wrong and hacked on at the factory so it didn’t ride well at all. I don’t know if it ever went in service and how long it spent at Pierce to fix this issue. Miles hasn’t had luck with trucks maybe they should consider a squad instead.

Let us not forget CFD purchasing the Morita for Truck 2 that didn’t fit in quarters so they had to swap rigs with Truck 1 back in the early 70’s. Mistakes happen.

This is what happens in this “got to have it five minutes ago generation.” This is a fire apparatus that almost every one is specially built for each department that is ordering them. It’s not like the family sedan that is completed on the assembly line in less than an hour or a steak dinner at a restaurant that is at your table in about 15 minutes or so.

harry do you speak english your post is an almost unreadable run on sentence which makes your information’s credibility almost zero so if you want to have your information taken seriously as well as be able to properly communicate in the english language you may want to consider using proper grammar

I’m sorry, I really hate to be rude to our brothers…but how the FRACK do you let this happen? This is a piece of equipment which probably edges close to 1 Million dollars and takes anywhere from 9 months to 2 years to design and build…and you don’t consider where you’re going to house it? The dimensions of an apparatus are NEVER a mystery, it’s very well laid out from the get go (and often times dimensional concerns will be addressed in the bid packet)!

I had heard that this truck could not fit into station 2. I had heard that they were having work done at station 2 to enlarge the opening and allow the truck to fit into the station.
