This from Chris Holmes:
I wanted to share photos of vehicles used by the Elgin Community College Fire Science & Safety program. I took them back in November of this year. They include 3 pieces of apparatus.
Also I recently found out Waubonsee Community College has an engine and an ambulance. I will work on getting those photos as well.Christopher T. Holmes

The JJC ambulance was definitely used for Morris EMS (source, I was assigned to it) for whatever that information is worth.

Matt, I talked with Martin who says he hasn’t seen the Moraine Mack since 2012 and has photos of it. It was missing some parts.

The engine at Joliet Junior College is a 1989 Ford C8000/Darley 1250/750, and was donated by East Joliet. It was originally 531 until the mid 90s, at which point it became 511 (a reserve piece.)
The ambulance is a 2005 Ford E350/Osage 2144 Brave, and was donated by Kurtz. I believe it was used for Morris 911.

The Technology Center of Dupage in Addison is a high school that offers many different career and technical education programs. Fire Science and EMT among them. Wooddale donated a Pierce engine and a ambulance to the school. While not directly affiliated with COD, students at TCD can earn credit hours at COD while earning high school credit at the same time. I will get some pictures of the rigs and send them into the site.

kind of off the track, but seeing how many different community colleges have fire / ems training programs got me thinking about where it all began in the Chicago area.
back in the early 70’s a retired fdny member, Leo Flynn, was the first coordinator / instructor at triton college’s program. as far as I know that was the first program in the area. he was a great instructor and of course had the new York accent ! I remember him saying that the fire service wasn’t all technology,, there was / is a big political and socilogical aspect,, how true !

Moraine Valley Community College has three vehicles in its fleet. They own an ex Posen Mack CF pumper, an ex Frankfort FPD Spartan/E-One Pumper and an ex-CFD Ford E-350/Wheeled Coach Ambulance.
Olive-Harvey City College at 103rd and Stony Island has also had a few ambulances parked on the campus in the past.

Christopher–COD keeps their rigs at the Technology Center in Addison on Swift Road. That’s where the Fire Science & EMS programs are at.

A suggestion: could a special section be added under the MABAS page to list all the training units? It would be interesting to see the history of the units along with a listing of all the community colleges, etc and their equipment

Joliet Junior College has an engine and ambulance for their fire science and EMS program. I know the engine is a Ford C, but not much else.
Sauk Valley College (Dixon, IL) had at one point four engines. Chadwick, Sterling, Erie (I think) and another department all donated rigs. I know at least one is gone as repairs to keep it running were too costly. The Sterling rig is an awesome custom cab Hahn with a screaming two stroke.
Only adding this in case you like keeping track of the rigs at relatively local colleges.

the low profile cab was very popular from E-One because of ease in and out. Unfortunately it did not afford much impact protection. Also with the change in diesel motors over the years, more room is needed for the chasis and frame as well as to afford better engine cooling and crew compartment temperature control.

how old is the Streamwood Engine?

I believe the E-One is a 1987. It was owned by Elgin Fire Department and operated as Engine 1.

Where does COD keep their fire engine and Ambulance? COD also has an ambulance back in the Homeland Security Center

COD also has their own Fire Science vehicles too–an engine (open cab) & ambulance that were donated by the Wooddale Fire District. They also are using, sometimes, Glenside FD’s “ready reserve”.

How old is that EONE?
I’m surprised the low profile cab never caught on though popular thru the 70’s and 80’s, they pretty much went the way of square wheel and 8 track after that.
