Here’s the new engine for Hinsdale. It is a 2014 Pierce Saber 1500/750 engine.

Not a fan of a utility truck? Haha!
I should have prefaced that post in the category of “in the interest of accuracy”…
Now, back to our regular program…

Indeed. All newer rigs are black over red. Started with the 2008 truck, the 2012 ambo, and a utility truck (added in 2013, I believe). Now, the 2014 engine.
Here is a pic of the utility truck from a third party. There is no pic on this site yet: http://www.illinoisfiretrucks.com/CHICAGO-METROPOLITAN-AREA-FDs/DUPAGE-COUNTY/HINSDALE-FIRE-DEPARTMENT/i-b2nzk92/A

They are hanging on to the 2000 Pierce Saber engine (last yellow pumper) as a second-line rig and getting rid of their older Pierce Lance and the Spartan/3D rescue pumper. Their five year plan showed the 2000 Pierce Saber (1013) getting refurbed this year or next which might mean a new paint job bringing it inline with the new black over red paint scheme.

Better to have it and not need it all the time than to not have it and need it five minutes ago. Besides, thanks to MABAS, it will likely not spend most of it’s time in the station.

This rig replaced both the Spartan and old Pierce engines. They currently have two engines, the truck, two ambos, and a few buggies/staff vehicles.

I saw that Engine 1011 was up for sale. Does this new engine 1012 replace it or are they downsizing?
