The Lombard Fire Department in MABAS Division 12 has been added to the site. Lombard is a career department covering just under 11 square miles from two stations. Their fleet consists of Pierce apparatus and Horton ambulances. They are currently celebrating 100 years of service.

Lombard currently has a daily minimum of 15 on duty. At 15 on duty,Lombard runs with Battalion 44, E45 runs with 4 members, E44, TL44 both with 3, Medic 44 & 45 with 2. At 16 on duty, a 3rd medic, Medic 47, is staffed at station 45, and each engine then runs with 3. Before the economy tanked around 2008, Lombard staffed 4 on each engine and staffed a 3rd medic during daytime peak hours.

They staff both engines with minimum 3, believe usually 4. The tower is staffed with minimum 3. Two ambulances are staffed, and they used to staff a 3rd during the day. They may still do. They also have the battalion chief position in the buggy.

I thought they used to staff the 2 engines and truck as well as 3 medics during the day and 2 at night. That was a few years ago so don’t quote me on it.

I believe when I was there to shot, Tower 44 was frontline with 4-5 guys at Station 44 and Tower 47 is a reserve. I think they had 3-4 guys at Station 45.

It’s good to see Lombard on the site after so long. While I too am impressed by the both the Engines and the Tower Ladders, however the big question is how do they man the apparatus such as how many men per company and also just as important are all both of the Engines and Tower Ladders always manned or are some of the units cross manned also known as “jump companies” in some places?
