This from Eric Haak:
A few images from a working fire at 117th and Michigan in Chicago on Sunday afternoon. Fire was already blowing out a sector B window on arrival even though Engine 75’s response distance was only 2 blocks. The fire on the first floor was quickly brought under control but had made it’s way into a confined space attic. All images of interior work being done without masks or packs were taken during the overhaul phase, well after the fire was declared out.

You are correct. There were little sections of the exterior siding that were still burning from when the fire was venting out the window section. There were bits of siding burning around the entire window area for a short period. In image 7 they were overhauling that area but at that time there was no evidence of visible fire or smoke. Probably making sure that there was nothing hidden in the eaves since that was the area where the fire had vented up the exterior wall. The last thing they did before picking up was to wash down that entire area from the exterior.

Thanks for the photos Erik… Is that fire above the guys head in picture #6? (Below the roof overhang and above the window) And I’m not asking because of the last sentence in your synopsis of this fire! Picture #7 shows three guys ripping up the area just above that spot, also making me think that it was still burning a bit. Thanks again-
