The McCook Fire Department has been working a large mulch fire since 8AM at 5300 Lawndale. For much of the day they used a tanker shuttle to provide water. The fire is burning on the back side of a huge mulch pile where there is no access.
Late this afternoon, they released the tankers and requested a hose wagon (6-1-2) and turret wagon (6-7-6) from Chicago. The new 6-7-6 is on the scene at what is believed to be the first deployment of the new unit.
Several contributors are or have been at the scene. Several cell phone images have been submitted from Josh Boyajian and Tim Olk, and we look forward to more images later tonight. This will be an extended operation.

To answer part of my own question, from information received from other division 10 people, McCook often has no more than 3 firefighters working to man their rigs. They are also one of two departments in division 10 that do not offer ALS.
Strong rumors of McCook being taken over by Pleasantview from two different division 10 folks.

Battalion 16, Engine 26, Engine 104, Hose Wagon 6-1-2 and Turret Wagon 6-7-6 responded from the City. An in-line pumper operation was started around 5:30 PM. Riverside Engine 1621, Tri-State Engine 511, Forest View Engine 813, McCook “Squad” 1416, Bedford Park Engine 711 and finally the turret wagon were working as well as Lyons Engine 1316 on the other side of the train tracks.

Tell me about this operation. Couldn’t a hose wagon just have been brought in and connect to an engine or aerial for the same purpose? It look like only one feed to the turret. Granted, this is probably a special circumstance and not a common occurance, but seems like everyone BUT Mabas 10 was working the fire. (Ok, that’s probably not true, but when you hear Chicago called in and the list of tankers, plus the absence of pics from Mabas 10, it just seems like it became Chicago’s fire.)
