Rahn Emanuel’s budget cuts took away the district chiefs. In all, nine administrative positions were done away with due to budget cuts. Now the districts (with the exception of the 3rd district) are run by the deputy district chiefs (i.e. 2-2-1, 2-2-2, etc.). Plus, on weekends when the Assistant Deputy Fire Comissioners (2-1-10 for fire north and 2-1-12 for fire south) aren’t working, larger fires and incidents are handled by the district chiefs that are designated for certain other tasks within the department (i.e. 2-1-27 DC for the Bureau of Logistics, 2-1-30 DC for Bureau of Safety). The recent 4-11 fire at 2444 west 24th street occured on a Saturday, thus 2-1-30 was on call that day, and assumed command of the fire.

They took away the district chiefs for 1,2,4,5,6. District 3 (Airports) still has a district chief

Why were the district chiefs eliminated? Who runs the districts now?
#4 by Drew on January 16, 2013 - 3:11 PM
The district chief position was eliminated for Districts 1-3, 5-6.

Fire cos not in order is not how it started when the department started. Obvioulsy over 150+ years things change and that is why engs, trks & sqds are not in order. As far as districts, ask the CFD command staff and mayor why they skipped the number…

If this had to happen, to save a few bucks or whatever, why was the 6th District not eliminated and then the district areas redone to divide the city into 5 districts? It is now like the FDNY that does not have its Battalions and Districts(FDNY is Divisions) in numerical order, if & when one was disbanded – that has never made much sense to me.
(I could say or ask the same for why numbers are skipped for Engine/Truck/Squad companies, but I won’t go there. I know it’s harder to do with so many Eng./Trk./Sqd. companies being created, disbanded and/or reinstated over the years. But for so few Districts it makes no sense to skip.)

You wrote “This is a nine page document”, yet all I can see is a jpg of page 1. Is the rest of it here?
