Numerous citizens, sheriff’s deputies and firefighters will be honored next week for their actions in saving people from a third-floor apartment during a fire at Edgewood Apartments on June 20.

The West Peoria Fire Department says citizens Norman Johnson, Tristan Morris and Dillon Lyons, and Peoria County deputies Joseph Vissering, Miles Winder, Tim Gilmore, and Lt. David Zook will be recognized for rescuing a child from the third floor of the apartment building, catching the child in a bed sheet.

West Peoria firefighters Kacper Soja, Zach Scudder, and John Harris, along with Limestone firefighters Alex Stauthammer and Lexi Mathewson, will be recognized for their efforts in rescuing three people from the same apartment.

The fire department also says COUNTRY Financial will make a donation to the department and other area departments to support additional and training for their lifesaving work.

Last week, the fire was ruled accidental with damage estimated at $2.25 million.

No cause has been determined.
