This from Tim Right:
There is an article that Villa Park was approved for a federal grant to help pay for a new engine that they ordered. This was the meeting item and it was passed.
7. Consider a Resolution Approving the Purchase of a Pierce Impel Engine for the Fire Department through the Houston-Galveston Area Council Cooperative Purchasing Program
The fire department has three fire engines (pumpers) in its fleet. Two of the three are frontline and third is the reserve. Fire engines are replaced based on mileage, hours and general maintenance. It is the fire department’s recommendation to replace fire engines every 21 years, staggered, so every 7 years a new engine is purchased. Currently, Engine 961 is 25 years old, it is a Pierce Arrow with 53,000 miles and just over 6,000 hours of engine time. Engine 961 has had numerous mechanical problems, including last year on route to an emergency when the forty gallon fuel tank fell off.
If the purchase is approved, the engine will take approximately 8 to 9 months to construct. Funds in the amount of $220,000 are available in the Equipment Replacement Fund #65.502.02.401 for this purchase. An additional $100,000 will be budgeted in the FY15-16. If the Assistance to Firefighter’s Grant is not awarded, and the Illinois State Fire Marshal does not approve an interest free loan, staff is recommending a loan from Oshkosh Capital for additional funds needed for this purchase. Staff is respectively requesting authorization to purchase a 2015 Pierce Impel fire engine from Pierce Manufacturing through Global Emergency Products in Aurora Illinois via the H-GAC Cooperative Purchasing Program at a cost not to exceed $510,000.
Villa Park in suburban Chicago has been awarded a $432,000 federal grant to purchase vehicles for its fire department. The grant is coming from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, part of the Department of Homeland Security.
The funding is provided through Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant program. Its aim is to improve the nation’s preparedness and ability to respond to fire emergencies. The program has awarded $321 million directly to fire departments and other emergency-responder agencies.

This from Brian Murphy:
These photos are of a single-family house fire on the west side of Villa Park, taken during a very cold and snowy winter afternoon in the early- to mid-1990’s. At the time the pictures were taken, units from Villa Park (including call-backs), Elmhurst, Lombard, and Addison were either on-scene or en route. Unsure if it was a General Alarm or a First-Level MABAS Box.All photos were taken using a 35mm pocket camera- no digital or smartphones back then! Hope you enjoy the brief trip down memory lane!I will send more as time permits!Best Regards,Brian Murphy

The Villa Park Fire Department in MABAS Division 12 has been added to the site. They cover just under 5 square miles with 26 career firefighters from two stations. They have a mixed fleet of E-ONE and Pierce apparatus with Medtec and Horton medic units. Their new DuPage County station numbers are 81 and 82.
They recently repainted the white bay doors red at Station 82.

This from CARMA CHICAGO:
Villa Park FD using new numbers on DU-COMM Fire EastStation 1 (unused, AFAIK) is just south of St. Charles Road on Home Avenue. The original West Suburban Fire Rescue Alliance numbering plan for DuPage County does show 81 for station 2 (north) and 82 for station 3 (south) with 83 and 84 being their reserve numbers and no mention of station 1 - but the original plan hasn't been followed much for numbering changes in the last year or so.
Villa Park FD is using new station and rig numbers on DU-COMM Fire East (154.415, 192.8 PL). I heard the tail end of a call where Engine 82 returned to quarters and Medic 81 went to Elmhurst Hospital. I believe they have two active stations and possibly a spare. It would seem that they're using 81 and 82 for their stations and front line rigs - does anyone know what number or numbers they're using for reserve rigs, etc.?
I show 81 for station 1, 82 for station 2, and 83, 84 for reserves. Don't they have an unused/old/semi-used station just south of St Charles in addition to the one near Roosevelt and the other one north of the UPRR?
The following is a list of Du Page County station numbering from CARMA Chicago:

From John Tulipano:
On 5/29/12 approximately 15:00, Bloomingdale Fire District responded to a structure fire at 1839 Timber Lane, fire was in a 2-sty frame, 6-unit townhouse, 50X150. 2-units were involved, once fire was knocked down a gas leak continued and a 2nd alarm was called for manpower.

On 5/29/12 at approxiamtely 18:30, Villa Park received calls for a fire at the Villa Park VFW hall, 39 East St Charles Road. First arriving companies found smoke coming from the building and multiple injured civilians. Two lines were stretched into the basement where there was a gun range and reported explosion. Ten civilians were transported, three were critical. Companies on the General were Elmhurst Eng 2, York Center Sqd 77, Lombard TL52, and Northlake Trk 804. An EMS box was called bringing ambulances from Lombard, Elmhurst, Downers Grove, Bensenville, Wood Dale, and Oakbrook Terrace. Fire was quickly knocked down in the basement.

Nine people were injured, two critically, in a fire and possible explosion at a Villa Park VFW post apparently ignited by a welder working in a basement gun range during the post’s weekly bingo night this evening, authorities said.
Firefighters were called to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2801, 32 E. St. Charles Road in the west suburb, about 6:30 for a report of a fire and an explosion in the building, said Lombard Fire Department Battalion Chief Ronald Rakosnik, who is set to become Villa Park’s fire chief next month.
Nine patients were taken to area hospitals, two in critical condition, three in fair-to-serious condition, and the rest in good condition, Rakosnik said.
When firefighters arrived, they found many of those who had been inside with faces blackened with soot, after the quick-moving fire spread through the one-story building, Rakosnik said. Heat from a fast-moving fire like that in the VFW can cause damage to the lungs, Rakosnik.
The fire luckily ignited before bingo had actually started for the night, so fewer people were in the hall at the time than would have been an hour later, said those who were inside at the time.

Dennis McGuire, Jr. came across a listing for a cable TV program depicting the Red Shift in Villa Park. Check out the description HERE.
Just like the Police Department, Firefighters and Paramedics are always on duty and as we know run in the direction of dangerous situations rather than away from them. No family lives in a community for very long without having contact with a Firefighter or Paramedic. For some, contact is made in an emergency and for others interaction with the Fire Department may be in the community at an event or training program.
Included in the specials are items of interest from fire departments and emergency services in many other communities. The programs schedule for cable television will be announced in late January. Viewers in communities outside of Villa Park will be able to see the programming on their cable systems in the future or on the Internet at www.vpnettv.com.
