8/10/2020 Franklin Park 3rd alarm industrial building fire. #local5230 members went mutual aid to Franklin Park for the industrial building on fire. Members from Truck 5 went interior with a 2 1/2 handline, set Schiller Park Truck 5 ladder up and went to the roof with members from Franklin Park. While on the roof, both companies made a few trench cuts allowing members to hit the fire with a hand-line to put out all the hot spots. SPFD was on scene for about three hours, all while a significant wind and rain storm came through the area. All remaining Schiller Park members on duty stayed back and responded to multiple storm-related calls of wires, and trees down, along with other EMS calls. Thank you to Tim Olk for the pictures!
Something we take very seriously is when we get back to the station, and we make sure all of our tools are cleaned, inspected, and ready for the next call. Every member will also be required to wash all their gear; this is mandatory to help prevent cancer.

The Hillside Fire Department had a second alarm on Sunday morning at about 4:45am. The fire was in a 25×100 commercial building that had 1-story in the front and 2-stories in the back. I was unable to get to the front of the building so here is are images of Schiller Park’s truck and a Villa Park engine working in sector C.

This from Steve Redick:
Had a chance to take in an unusual job on Wednesday at a records building/chapel in a large cemetery. There were roofers working on the building at the time and I imagine that related to the fire’s origin. The sole water supply was from the Schiller Park engine which supplied two 2-1/2 hand lines and a LDH, 4-inch. The fire consumed the entire roof and attic area and was ultimately contained by a tower ladder master stream from Norwood Park. The brand new Schiller Park E-one truck was utilized but I think they had some kind of issue with the waterway resulting in an unusual operation with a handline from the tip. Some unusual photos to be had with all the headstones and monuments around the fire building along with the ornate construction of the chapel itself. Here’s a link to all the imagesSteve
Des Plaines firefighters were called for a kitchen fire at 2148 Chestnut Street at 3:30AM 1/11/18. This occurred as many units were still working at the Maine Scrap Metals fire that started several hours earlier. Callback Des Plaines firefighters staffing reserve units and change-of-quarters companies responded to this alarm. The first arriving units reported fire blowing out of the front windows of this end unit. One occupant signed a release and was not transported. Companies at this fire were Des Plaines Engine 64 (using Engine 62), Des Plaines Ambulance 64, Des Plaines Battalion 62, Rosemont Engine 156, North Maine Engine 1, Niles Ambulance 2, and Glenview Ambulance. Schiller Park Truck 5 and Battalion 5 responded from the other fire scene.
