This from Larry Shapiro:
Deerfield-Bannockburn firefighters were called for a house fire around noon on Friday (5/22/15) at 818 Forest Avenue. The alarm was upgraded by RED Center prior to companies arriving on-scene based on a report from police officers of smoke showing. They had fire on the first floor with smoke throughout of an older, two-story, frame house. Two lines were used and the bulk of the fire was knocked down within 10 minutes.
Units at the scene included Deerfield Engine 19 & 20, Ambulance 19, Truck 20, Battalion 20 and the chief officers plus Truck and Battalion 33 from Highland Park, Engine and Ambulance 52 from Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Battalion 11 and Engine 10 from Northbrook, Morton Grove Squad 4, and Lake Forest Truck 421.
Here are some shots from the scene. I arrived about 15 minutes after the original dispatch.

Excerpts from the ChicagoTribune.com:
A Deerfield family survived a house fire unharmed Friday, after one family member smelled smoke, got everyone out of the house and called the fire department. The fire damage to the house, in the 800 block of Forest Avenue, was contained to one room because the door to that room was shut.
Deerfield Bannockburn Fire Protection District Deputy Chief Ray Larson said “There were people in the home including children. The person smelled smoke, evacuated the people and called 911. That closed door was a huge factor preventing the spread of the fire. They didn’t try to open it. They just got out and called 911.”
When firefighters arrived at the two-story home, they entered through the front door, went into the room where the fire was burning and extinguished it with a hose, according to Larson. That was the only room to sustain fire damage, though smoke permeated throughout.

This from Larry Shapiro:
I was one of over hundred people that said goodbye to a friend today, Deerfield-Bannckburn Firefighter Brad Hytoff. Known to many in the fire service, Brad was also a lifelong fire buff and fire service aficionado. Family, friends, police officers, and firefighters gathered to pay their respects to an 18-year veteran of the Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District.

The department will be receiving a new rescue/pumper with storage space for some of the consolidated equipment from both of the older squads. The balance of the equipment will either be stored in the station or disposed of.
A quick historical review of some previous squads that served the Deerfield Bannockburn Fire Prevention District.

This from Larry Shapiro:
Shortly before 11AM Sunday, a motorist reported a vehicle fire up against a garage at the corner of Riverwoods Road and half Day Road (Route 22) in Lincolnshire. Companies reported a dark header as they got on the road and the alarm was upgraded to a Code 4 for the confirmed fire that had spread to the attached garage and was threatening the home.
Deerfield-Bannockburn Engine 19 was first on the scene followed by Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Engines 51 and 52. A quick attack with a 2 1/2″ line darkened much of the fire and additional lines were put to use effectively holding the fire to the garage.
Units at the scene were Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Engines 51 & 52, Truck 53, Ambulances 52 & 53, Battalion 51, and Rehab 51 in addition to Deerfield-Bannockburn Engine 19, a Libertyville squad, Buffalo Grove Tower 25, an ambulance from Lake Zurich, and Lake Forest Battalion 42
I arrived after the fire had been knocked down.

The Chicago Tribune has an article about the Deerfield-Bannockburn FPD celebrating their centennial:
One hundred years ago, volunteer firefighters in Deerfield had two ways of hauling their “fire cart” to a blaze. They could attach the two-wheeled cart to a horse-drawn buggy — or to a car, if available.
The cart carried a single coil of hose, which unrolled and attached to an onboard water tank, to be replenished at the scene by bucket brigades.
Ambulances from converted hearses would come later. And much later came mobile intensive-care units, literally rolling emergency rooms, linked to hospital ER staffs and central dispatchers, performing EKGs, defibrillation and other life-saving procedures to stricken patients while en route.
May is the centennial month of the formation of the Deerfield volunteer department, which in 1942 became the Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District, now with 42 sworn firefighter/paramedics in stations at 500 Waukegan Road in Deerfield and on Illinois Route 22 in Bannockburn.
The two-wheeled cart from the last century has been replaced by a fleet of modern rolling stock, including three pumpers, one aerial ladder truck, two squad trucks, three paramedic ambulances, one command vehicle and five administrative/support vehicles.
The largest vehicle, a 2005 truck, is nearly 13 feet high, 8 feet wide and about 41 feet long. The truck, which can run with as few as two firefighters, cost more than $500,000, with $425,000 coming from a FEMA grant. The replacement cost today would be $1 million.
“Just like all fire departments up here, we are an all-hazards response department,” Fire Chief Ian Kazian said. “So we are cross-staffed with ambulances, paramedics and firefighters. We respond to all calls, so from an operational standpoint, EMS, fire, special rescue, high-angle trench rescue and hazardous materials are daily challenges everybody faces.”
In 2012, medical rescue calls were 56 percent of the total, with fires 3 percent. False alarms accounted for 25 percent of calls.
