Steger Fire Department news

From the Steger Fire Department @stegerfire Facebook page:

Hello all, The Steger Fire Department is in need of our communities assistance.

If you are unaware, our department currently, is staffed 24/7 with only 2 members a day. One full-time Firefighter Paramedic and one part-time Firefighter EMT or Paramedic. Currently if we receive a second call while our crew is on another, we have to call a neighboring town to assist us in answering that second call. This is why most times you may see a South Chicago Heights or Crete Ambulance coming to your home. Our ever increasing call volume and further transport times to our area hospitals leave our town vulnerable. With this Levy Increase, we would be able to staff not only a second ambulance, but be able to staff our Station 2 located behind the police station. This is also essential because no longer will help be delayed to those in need on the opposite side of the tracks.

We truly need your support come April 6th.

If you would like to show your support for the Steger Fire Department you may message this page or call the station and request a sign to place on your property. If you have any questions post it here or message us we will be more than willing to answer any questions you may have.

Thank You to everyone that over the years have shown us your overwhelming support. Let’s keep that momentum going.

Elgin Fire Department news

From the Elgin Association of Firefighters, IAFF Local 439 @IAFF.Local.439 Facebook page:

Due to a budget cut imposed onto the Elgin Fire Department, Elgin, Illinois, Engine 6, located at 707 W. Chicago St. will be out of service for at least 280 days a year. Last year, Engine 6 responded to over 3,000 Emergency calls!

The Union and Fire Chief agree that this is a reduction in overall service to the residents of Elgin. If you live, work, or own a business in Elgin, it is imperative that you contact the Council Members listed below to state your opposition to this reduction in service!
