This from Drew Gresik:
Here are some shots from the Still & Box 1/12/15 in a Red X building @ #26 S Pulaski Road.
1/12/15- Around 1500 hours the 13th Battalion received a rundown for a working fire in a vacant Red-X structure at #26 S Pulaski. This 150×50, 2story ordinary, apartments over storefronts has been vacant for some years, and the structure was very suspect. As per Red-X protocol, crews stayed out of the building and dumped water from an exterior attack. Tower 14 and Snorkel Squad 2 worked elevated master streams. Four hand lines were stretched; two on Side A, one on Side C, and one on Side D. Engines 95, 38, 44, and 76 pumped at this fire. Companies on the Still & subsequent Working Fire were: E95 E38 T36 T48 BN13 BN12 (Safety) RIT BN14 T29 Sq 2 2-7-1 EMS 4-5-4 A23 A52. On the Still & Box: E44 E76 TL14 BN7 BN4 2-2-1 A10 4-6-6 4-6-8.

That siren is a Federal e2QB, an electronic version of the famous, traditional mechanical “Q.” You can tell by observing that the Q’s grill lacks the side grill of the mechanical version. Link to Federal’s website http://www.fedsig.com/products/310/e_q2b

Fred M: Ok fred here ya go..1. Each Squad has a nickname/Mascot. Squad 2 uses the color blue.
2. The “Red X” was a program started a year or so ago and ended this year. It was to ID all abandoned buildings that had 40% or more structural damage and would be unsafe for firefighters to enter UNLESS a person(s) was seen in the windows/doors. The firefighters could enter to rescue or if the safety officer on scene determined that is was ok to enter the building.
3. All new engines have Federal sirens but they’re not the mechanical types.

Thanks for sharing Drew….but a few questions for those who may know….Squad 2A has “Blue Devils” on the Snorkel basket?
What does the red X’s on the building mean? Engine 76 has a Federal siren on it?
