This from John Tulipano:

On November 10, 2014 at approximately 11:05am West Chicago FPD was dispatched to a reported house fire at 28w649 Hickory Lane. First arriving company Batt 6 reported smoke from a house.

When I arrived fire was venting out the 2nd floor of the home along the mansard roof line. The house was a 2-story frame approximately 50×50 with a mansard style roof around the entire house from 2nd floor to approximately three feet above the ground.
Companies advanced through the front door and within several minutes fire had dropped down the inside of the mansard. There was fire around the entry door, and command removed all companies from inside and an exterior attack began. The fire traveled left around the east and south side of the house, companies worked very hard to try and stay ahead of the fire as they pulled and opened up the mansard there seemed to be fire ahead of them.
It took about 45 minutes to bring the fire under control.
Apparently a work was sweating pipes inside the first floor of the home.
