This from Larry Shapiro:
Lake Zurich FD received a call at 4:34AM reporting a house fire at 23722 S. Lakewood Lane in unincorporated Lake County. FIrst in companies found a well-involved frame house. The alarm was upgraded to a Box Alarm and then a 2nd Alarm for additional tankers as the neighborhood has no hydrants. The house, which was reportedly vacant, was completely destroyed.
All that was left standing was the lower portion of the front wall around the garage. Larry Shapiro photo

Companies on the alarm include four engines from Lake Zurich plus mutual aid engines from Mundelein, Palatine, Arlington Heights, and Fox River Grove. Trucks were from Wauconda and Buffalo Grove. Lincolnshire-Riverwoods and Libertyville sent ambulances, and tankers were from Long Grove, Cary, Fox Lake, Round Lake, Countryside, Palatine Rural, and Nunda. The Mess Canteen provided support services and chief officers were due from Wauconda, Countryside, Buffalo Grove, Long Grove, and Palatine.

Tim Olk took a drive on Monday to visit the fire scene in Peru, IL. When he went down there, they were over 30 hours into the fire and had requested a 4th Alarm for tankers to the scene. Tim found fires still burning and producing large amounts of smoke throughout many areas of the complex. He took a large amount of photos during the time he was on-scene which will be online in the coming hours. Here are a few samples of what he found in Peru. Earlier coverage of the fire can be found HERE.

Firefighters were kept at a distance during the height of the fire due to the intense heat and are just now able to move in and hit all of the remaining fires. Here they douse a dumpster in a loading dock area near several burned trailers. Tim Olk photo

The Barrington Fire Department received calls for a structure fire before 9PM last night at #7 Crestview Lane in Lake Barrington. First arriving units found heavy fire in what would be determined later as a vacant house undergoing renovation. Lake Zurich Engine 2 (3214), located roughly two miles from the fire scene arrived right behind companies from Barrington Station 3 and setup a relay pumping operation which would later be supplied by a tanker shuttle from the end of Crestview Lane at Old Barrington Road.

Seven tankers responded to the scene and the fire was struck out in less than an hour. Temperatures at the time of the fire were in the low 80s with high humidity. Mutual aid companies came from Hoffman Estates, Carpentersville, Mundelein, Cary, Palatine, Palatine Rural, Long Grove, Bartlett, Wauconda, Algonquin-Lake In The Hills, and Deerfield.

The newest station for Crete Township is at 26730 S. Stony Island Avenue. Bill Friedrich photo
The Crete Township Fire Protection in MABAS Division 27has three stations. They have a variety of engines made my Pierce, E-ONE, Luverne, and Alexis. The ambulances are from Medtec and they also have three tankers (tenders), the newest of which was completed in 2011 by Alexis on a Freightliner M2 chassis.
In 1995, Crete Township was one of several south suburban fire departments to order an engine from Luverne on an HME 1871 chassis. Two of these had the largest extended and raised cabs that were offered; one went to Alsip and the other is still on the roster for Crete Township with a fully enclosed pump operator panel.
The newest unit in the Crete Township fleet is a 3,000-gallon tender built by Alexis on a Freightliner chassis. There is a graphic on the porta-tank cover which illustrates a steamer that was refurbished by Gene Morris of Alexis Fire Equipment.
