This from Larry Shapiro:
It’s the season for controlled or prescribed burns, so I followed a huge header Tuesday afternoon (3/31/15) to the Busse Woods Forest Preserve where the Cook County FPD Resource Management firefighters were burning in a large field. I walked in and stayed for about 45 minutes as they moved through the area. Here are some images from the burn area of what’s called the Nature Preserve on the north side of the Salt Creek.

Wheeling firefighters were called to 697 S. Merle for a fully-involved, detached garage fire. A header was visible while companies were en route and multiple 9-1-1 calls were received. The alarm was upgraded to the Code 4 for the working fire bringing mutual and auto-aid from Buffalo Grove, Prospect heights, Long Grove, and Arlington Heights.
Here are several images from the scene plus a video.

This from Steve Redick of the Chicago Still Alarm at 5701 N Newcastle:
Arrived about 15 minutes into this job and was greeted with fire venting from the roof. Companies made the attic and hit the fire from below in pretty short order. Some items of interest … note the positioning of truck 55, some call this beaching … seemed to work very well here. Also note the ground ladder placement covering all sides of the structure. The images of squad 7 are of the same rig used in the show Chicago Fire. The 7 on the door looks like a good tape job to me and makes me think they’re gonna have this rig for a while. An interesting job in a normally very quiet area.Steve

Chicago Fire Dept working fire at Hurlbut & Newcastle in Old Norwood Park
This from Larry Shapiro:
Firefighters were called to the scene of a head-on crash this afternoon on Old McHenry Road north of Cuba Road in Long Grove. First arriving companies reported one car vs a semi with a fire and the car’s driver trapped. The driver was extricated in short order and transported to Condell Hospital … the fire, reported to have encroached into the passenger compartment was quickly contained.
The semi was parked on the shoulder (northbound on the southbound side of the road) as the driver was delivering building materials up a long driveway with a piggyback truck mounted forklift. He reported seeing smoke as he approached the street having never heard the impact of the crash. He attempted to fight the fire with an extinguisher as did a Lake County Sheriff’s deputy prior to the arrival of the fire department.
Here are some images from the scene.

Buffalo Grove firefighters were called to 1062 Harvard Lane in the early morning hours of September 6th for smoke in the house. The area had been hit hard earlier in the day by a fast moving storm that knocked out power to many homes including this one. Thick black smoke met the first arriving companies who quickly found a small fire in the basement, but not before the entire house was charged with smoke. Here are a few images and a short video from the scene.
