Lisle house fire 7/1/11

Stephen Wilcox submitted yet another recent house fire from Dupage County, this time in Lisle. Stephen submitted several images and commentary;

This box alarm was in an unhydranted area in the north end of Lisle’s district. Typically, the weather was hot and humid. No one home at the time of the fire (1115 hours on 7/1/11) may have contributed to a response delay. Structure was one story “L” shaped, about 40″X80″ ordinary, located on Red Oak. Command also called a box for tankers.

Lisle Woodridge Engine 511 added

The Lisle Woodridge Fire District received a new Pierce Arrow XT PUC in April. Larry Shapiro photographed Engine 511 which has been added to the site. The new unit replaces a 2000 E-ONE Cyclone engine and a 1984 Spartan/E-ONE heavy rescue squad. Reportedly, as much as 60% of the equipment from the old squad was transferred to the new engine and the balance was assigned to unit at Station 2. The squad went to a fire department in Kentucky, and the 2000 E-ONE replaces a 1997 as one of the spare engines.

recalls from Pierce, Spartan, Daimler Trucks & Ford

Firegeezer.com has an article which details several recalls that deal with fire service vehicles. Recalls involve Daimler Trucks, Pierce, Spartan Motors, and Ford. Some highlights include:

Spartan is recalling (NHTSA #11V-240) certain 2010 and 2011 Furions, Gladiators and MetroStars. Certain telltales (dash indicator lights) do not illuminate when they are intended to (high beam indicator, turn signal indicators), or they flicker. In addition, the ABS lamp may not illuminate when the system is affected by a fault.

Pierce has two recalls in. One, NHTSA #11V255, is for certain 1999 – 2008 Arrow XT, Dash, Lance and Enforcer chassis and equipped with an electronic accelerator pedal. After repeated use with “excessive force” (ed. note: who, us?), the accelerator pedal arm may bend and cause the pedal to move closer to the floor. If the pedal arm bends far enough, the pedal may contact the cab floor without warning and stick in the full throttle position.

Pierce is also recalling (NHTSA #11V-230) certain 2009 – 2011 Arrow XT and Velocity apparatus. The front axles of these vehicles were built with Michelin 365/70R22.5 XZA tires installed on 12.25 inch wide wheels. These tires require 10.5 inch wide wheels to comply with FMVSS #120.

St. Charles 2nd Alarm 6/1/11

The St. Charles Fire Department worked a 2nd Alarm fire on Wednesday at Salerno’s on the Fox restaurant. The Sun-Times has an article HERE and the Tribune has an article HERE.

No injuries were reported in the fire at Salerno’s on the Fox, 320 N. 2nd Street.

Fire Chief Patrick Mullen said the fire was reported at 5:24 p.m. and that smoke could be seen coming from the back of the one-story restaurant.

“It looks like the area of origin was around the gas meters,” Mullen said. “It’s a blow-torch.”

Firefighters from 10 area departments continuously poured water on stubborn flames fed by a ruptured natural gas line.

John Tulipano went to the scene and submitted several images of the apparatus that responded.
