Naperville is complete

Naperville Fire Department station 8

Naperville Station 8 is a single engine house at 120 Modoff Road. Larry Shapiro photo

All 10 stations in Naperville have been photographed and added to the site with the apparatus as it is currently assigned. This includes the two new Spartan/Crimson quints and the reassigned engine 8 and squad 1. A return trip will be necessary when the next Spartan Crimson engine comes in to replace the Freightliner/EONE currently running out of station 4. Our thanks to Lt. Andy Hilk for making the arrangements for the group to get the photos around town and to the personnel who were very accommodating to a bunch of photographers.

Des Plaines updates

In December, Des Plaines received their third Pierce engine. Going into service at station 3, Engine 63 replaced a 1995 E-ONE Hurricane 1500/750 top-mount. The new engine is the

first Arrow XT in Des Plaines as Engine 61, Engine 62 and Truck 81 are all on Dash chassis. The E-ONE is now designated Engine 64R and the 1993 Spartan/Darley that was previously lettered as Engine 64R has now become Engine 65R. This unit will be stored at the public works facility and will primarily act as a reserve piece for the truck companies. Most of the hose has been removed and it will carry as much of the truck tools as it can. For the detail people who follow apparatus, it is interesting to note that the rig has a 1500-GPM pump but is listed on the Pierce website as having a 2000-GPM pump.

Squad 55, the 6×6 military surplus TRT unit is sporting a new canvas cover for the bed. The OD-green cover has been replaced with one with a camouflage design.

South Wilmington is added to the site

The volunteer fire department in South Wilmington has been added to the site. Also in Division 15, South Wilmington is in Grundy County, unlike Braidwood which is in Will County. South Wilmington has a small department with an ambulance, a brush truck and two engines working out of a single house. Once again we thank Karl Klotz for providing the images and information that make it possible to post another department.

Des Plaines has a new engine on order

The Des Plaines Fire Department (in both Divisions 1 and 3) is awaiting delivery of a replacement for Engine 63. The new rig, from Pierce, will have the same body design as Engines 61 and 62 but the chassis will be different. Engine 63 will feature an Arrow XT chassis while the older, twin engines, were built on Dash chassis.
