Excerpts from the journal-topics.com:
Deputy Fire Chief Matt Matzl has been named Des Plaines’ new fire chief effective May 23 succeeding Dan Anderson who has served in that role for about the last four years.
Over the past few weeks, Matzl has assumed most of the day-to-day responsibilities of the department to ensure a seamless transition of duties. He will be formally sworn in during a city council meeting in June.
After 40 years in the fire service, Anderson will retire on May 22. He joined the Des Plaines Fire Department in January 2020, tasked with modernizing operations and emergency services. Under his leadership, the department underwent significant operational changes, including the utilization of a fourth ambulance and the introduction of Rescue 63 & Squad 63, multi-purpose vehicles used for both EMS and fire responses.
thanks Rob

There was no apparatus on display this year from the northern Illinois area. The image shows the Lucas Oil Stadium exhibits. With Pierce finally moving their booth to the convention hall with all of the other apparatus, the stadium had a much different look and feel than it has since it opened in 2008.

Excerpts from Fox32chicago.com:
George Ma’Ayteh, a firefighter, accustomed to saving lives, found himself in need of rescue when he collapsed and nearly died last October.
His boss, Paula Anast, was with him and got on the phone with Fire Communications Operator Amanda Garr, who, remaining composed and focused, guided Anast through the steps of CPR, coaching her in the lifesaving procedure.
For eight minutes, Garr directed Anast in administering chest compressions until paramedics arrived.Ma’Ayteh, who was unconscious for three days following the incident, attributes his survival to the intervention and guidance provided by both Garr and Anast.
It was later discovered that Ma’Ayteh had previously worked alongside Garr’s father, a battalion chief.
Chief Barry Garr commended his daughter’s performance, highlighting her dedication to saving lives through her role as a fire communications operator, and emphasized her numerous commendations.
For Garr, her job is a calling—a chance to provide comfort and guidance to individuals facing crises. Despite often not learning the outcomes of the emergencies she assists with, Garr has made a profound impact on countless lives.

Excerpts from cbsnews.com:
Chicago firefighters were called for a fire at 8:15 p.m. Thursday at 1355 W. 16th St. in Pilsen and found heavy fire at the two-and-a-half-story, multi-family frame house.
The building was vacant and being remodeled. Firefighters launched a blitz attack – directing two hose lines on the house while protecting nearby homes. The fire spread to the attics of occupied, wood-frame structures with a brick veneer on each side.
The alarm was raised to a 2-11 for additional equipment and manpower bringing 32 pieces of fire equipment and just short of 100 firefighters.
The house where the fire started ended up collapsing. There were no reports of injuries in the fire. The cause remained unknown late Wednesday.
