Still and Box Alarm fire in Chicago, 12-23-08

This from Dan McInerney – from 14 years ago yesterday:

This was a fire I took in after work in 08

Still and Box at 5922 W Erie, 2 1/2-story frame, 25×50, totally involved. Box on arrival by Truck 29

Got there 3-4 minutes after 96 and the group.

Tower Ladder 14 members were on the roof.

Right after the 4th image was taken, 2-2-4 ordered members off the roof since there were no lines on the second floor and conditions were deteriorating in the attic beneath them.

2-11 Alarm fire in Chicago, 8-22-17 (more)

This from Steve Redick:

It was deja vu … the old Zenith industrial complex that has had several other fires including a still and box I took in a few months ago. Most of the fire appeared to be in the top floor and roof area and was really showing a lot of heavy smoke for a while. Little or no interior operations due to hazardous building conditions. Three towers, Snorkel,  a few ladder pipes and a deck gun were used. It was right at sunset so the photos were all taken in rapidly changing lighting conditions. The video and all the images can be seen at my website here:

2-11 Alarm fire in Chicago, 1-8-17 (part 3)

This from Drew Gresik:

Here are some quick images from Sunday morning’s 2-11 on the West Side. Engine 117 and the tower arrived and found heavy fire in the rear and in the attic of a 2.5 story balloon frame. Battalion 18 quickly requested a Still & Box and 2-2-4 requested a 2-11 a short time later. The fire got into the D-side exposure building but that structure was largely saved by the companies operating on scene. Tower 14 and Squad 2 worked elevated master streams, and several handlines were utilized as well.

2-11 Alarm fire in Chicago, 1-8-17 (part 2)

This from Dan McInerney:

Took this fire in on my way home from work, and arrived after the fire was knocked. Fire was in a 2 story frame 25×70, with fire throughout the second floor and through the roof. There was a collapse in the rear of what looked to be enclosed rear porches. I believe the 2-11 was for a communication issue to a similar house to the east, which was quickly covered after companies arrived. The entire 2-11 complement of suppression rigs were staged on Chicago Avenue in front of E117’s quarters. Of note was E83’s response on the 2-11 with a light wagon. As evidenced by the ice coating pretty much everything, it was bitterly cold out, and the sun was just starting to break over the fireground.

E117 was first due and had 3 lines off, E96 backed down to feed TL14, and E113 fed the Snorkel.

2-11 Alarm fire in Chicago, 1-8-17

This from Eric Haak:

At 0715 hrs this morning (1/8), the Chicago Fire Department was called to 4734 W. Huron for a fire in a 20×70, 2.5-sty frame apartment building. Engine 117 landed less than a minute after being dispatched and confirmed they had a fire. Battalion 18 arrived on scene moments later and reported back porches that had extended into the first and second floor of the original fire building with the “D” side exposure also involved and asked for a still & box. The alarm would eventually be elevated to a 2-11. Temperatures were once again in the single digits this morning

The city had a fire in a vacant house at 4620 W Superior around 2200 hours on 11/26/16. Three lines were led out and the roof was opened by T26. The 20×20 frame garage burned completely to the ground and companies had heavy fire inside the home on arrival.

Excerpts from ABC7Chicago.com:

Three of the four Chicago firefighters injured Sunday afternoon while fighting a blaze in a West Side apartment building remain hospitalized, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

The firefighters all suffered heat and smoke-related injuries, including first- and second-degree burns.  One has been released and the others are in good condition.

A flash was seen on the second floor as the firefighters went inside the building. Two of the firefighters had to jump out a second story window when a rush of oxygen ignited a backdraft as they entered the home along with two others who entered through the kitchen.

Six people have been displaced by the fire. No other injuries were reported.
