Braidwood is the first Division 15 department in the site

The Braidwood Fire Department in Will County has been added to the site under Division 15. Braidwood has just one station but it’s packed with interesting apparatus. As a matter of fact, it requires two pages on this site to display all of the vehicles.  They run two ambulances, one engine, one pumper tanker, a mid-mount tower ladder and three squads. Braidwood is home to one of Illinois’ nuclear power plants and their unique logo depicts the transition throughout the years from mining coal to nuclear power. All photos were provided by Karl Klotz.

  • Remove all worn interior plastic finishes and replace with brushed aluminum. Also reupholster all seats and cover motor dog house with brushed aluminum.
  • Install 6500-watt generator and two 750-watt telescoping lights (these will replace 2 12-V telescoping lights)
  • Install a Federal 2QB siren that was originally on the former 1984 E-ONE Squad 9. The existing electronic 2QB will remain.
  • Reconfigure the rear of the apparatus to install a hose tray for 2 ½” hose bed. This will locate the main lead-out bed to be accessible at chest height when standing on the ground. Both Engine 9 and Squad 9 have this feature. The main upper hose bed will only store LDH.

Karl Klotz has sent in the following information about the North Maine FPD in Division 3 who has some apparatus changes in the works. They have put a 2010 Ford/Horton MICU into service as Ambulance 1 and reassigned the 2004 IHC/Road Rescue as Ambulance 1R.  The 1992 IHC/Road Rescue that was Ambulance 1R is now Utility 1 which will serve the TRT, Haz Mat and Dive Teams in addition to the investigators.

Engine 1R the 1992 Pierce Arrow pumper will be going to Alexis to be refurbished. This will return as Engine 1 reportedly with a black roof. The 2003 American LaFrance pumper will then be reassigned as Engine 1R.

1st Division 14 department is posted

The Sandwich Community Fire Protection District in Division 14 has been added to the site. This is an all volunteer department with many pieces of apparatus. Their equipment is posted on 2 separate  with two items missing. Their antique engine and tower ladder, both of which we anticipate adding to the posting very soon. We are also looking for the size of the Sandwich FPD’s district so that we can finish the posting. Sandwich is a loyal customer of Alexis Fire Equipment in downstate Alexis, IL.  The entire fleet (with the exception of a used TRT support unit) was built by Alexis.
