Excerpts from fordauthority.com:
Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the automotive world has faced all sorts of struggles related to producing vehicles, chiefly because of various supply chain constraints. However, this is also true not only of the individual parts that are used to build new vehicles, but also the ones used to repair them, with some facing wait times of months and even years for their vehicles to be fixed. A fire department in Abington, Massachusetts found this out the hard way recently when their Ford F-550 ambulance was in need of a new engine, but it isn’t alone in that regard, as the Hingham Fire Department – also in Massachusetts – is also facing issues with its own Ford F-550 ambulance.
We’ll have more on Ford’s supply chain issues soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for the latest Ford F-Series news, Ford Super Duty news, and continuous Ford news coverage.

I just remembered that PIERCE did offer that FORD 6.7L POWERSTROKE on the SABER about 5 or 6 years ago but it didn’t last long as an option. This obviously before this whole mess got started but perhaps PIERCE got a sick feeling about that engine.

Our battalion chiefs vehicle is a crew cab f250 powerstroke. The junk cp4 fuel pump blew up back in October. We still don’t have it back.

Crabby – I agree to a certain extent but adding onto what you’re saying, the labor shortage is awful along with the material shortage. If you find an applicant for a position, they are completely unqualified. Many corporations are hiring just to have some hands at work in hopes they figure it out. Ultimately, we are seeing quality issues because of the unqualified workers.
You still can’t get police cars made right in Chicago. I know many departments are ordering them but Ford only fulfills a small portion of the order.
All fire apparatus builders are short staffed and the builders have massive backlogs! All of them!
I have never seen anything like this before and I hope it ends soon! I miss the days where you call your local dealer and they have exactly what you need. Now the lead times are eternal!

The time for FORD to blame COVID is past. FORD obviously is run by incompetent people given so many recalls and bad quality. Remember, they had trouble building police cars then delivering them. Then they were still bad once delivered. Now they can’t even build ambulance chassis with diesel engines that are no good. FORD was at least one time the best vehicle supplier for police cars and ambulance platforms and now they will likely lose out to GM, NAVISTAR, STELLANTIS, and DAIMLER. They have nobody but themselves to blame.
