This from Wayne Stewart:
The Gary Fire Department operated this 1959 Maxim “S” model pumper Serial #2165 assigned to Engine Co. No.12. It had a 1,000-gpm pump, a 300-gal. booster tank, and a 100-gal. foam tank. It also carried the following ladders; a 35′, a 24′, a 14′ roof ladder, and 10′ roof ladder. Engine 12 was put in service as a new company in 1959 in a new firehouse.

I am doing my family tree on Ancestry web site. I have several generations of family that lived and worked in the steel mills at the turn of the century but can find nearly zero results of birth/death/ marriage certificates etc. Beginning to think they were destroyed in a fire but can’t verify that either. I kinda recall mention of this from my childhood?

Very nice! At least here in the Milwaukee area there were virtually no MAXIM’s. If you look quickly, you could mistake it for a PIRSCH but there’s is no mistaken that MAXIM nose.
