Josh Boyajian, Martin Nowak, Ron Heal, and Bill Friedrich steered us towards the following new deliveries from Pierce:

Thornton Engine 777 is a 2012 Pierce Arrow XT with a 1,250-GPM pump and 750 gallons of water. Ron Heal photo
With this new engine, Thornton becomes the first area department to sport this silver/gray over red paint scheme.
- Rockford Fire Department

Rockford also received this quint for Quint 1. It is a 2012 Pierce Velocity with a 105′ rear mount aerial, a 1,500-GPM pump and 300 gallons of water. Ron Heal photo
Rockford received two other pierce quints for Quint 5 and 9 earlier this year.
- Mt. Zion Fire Department
This tower ladder replaces the unit that was lost when the fire station burned earlier this year.

On the Thornton Engine…..This engine will Replace Engine 740 and Squad 722. Not all the equipment from both 740 and 722 will fit on the new engine. From what I’m hearing the fire dept. didnt have much if any say on this new engine, sounds like the village bought it and said ” hey here you go a new engine”

This different paint scheme for Thornton just joins the “Green Machine” in their fleet. Thornton 747 is an all green tele-squirt.

Love the color scheme of the new Thornton engine. That is one of the more unique paint schemes I have seen. When will it be in service?

David – I guess the way I initially typed my correction could be taken either way…oops. Meant to say that Elmwood Park had the first rig in the area with the silver over red color scheme.

Scott, DH, the issue is not the first Bronto, it’s the color of the rig.

According to a couple websites, Melrose Park received theirs first. It is a 2004, Elmwood Park has a 2007.

Did Elmwood Park have theirs before Melrose Park…???

Brad, they’re replacing 740 and 722, the 2 80’s rigs. 747 is a 1996 and the newest.

I believe Elmwood Park’s bronto was the first in the Chicago area with the gray over red paint:

Don’t know for sure, but I heard Thornton’s replacing 747 with this rig.
