Moraine Valley Fire Science program apparatus

Bill Friedrich and Matt Schumann submitted images of the apparatus now being used by the Moraine Valley Fire Science program.

Moraine Valley Community College has expanded its training fleet for its Fire Service and EMS programs with the addition of a used pumper from the Frankfort FPD.  Formerly E731 in Frankfort, Moraine E3 is used for training with an x-Mack CF Pumper from Posen, IL and a former Chicago Fire Department Ford E-350 ambulance.  Here are pictures of these rigs.

One person was killed and three were injured in an accident in the town of Green Valley on Thursday afternoon.

The victim was identified early today as Jim Simpson, president and CEO of Marion Body Works, a company based in Marion that manufactures specialized transportation equipment.

The Shawano County Sheriff’s Department said the accident occurred at approximately 1:35 p.m. at the intersection of County Roads E and BB. A Chevrolet SUV driven by Alvin Birr, 83, of Suring, was southbound on County Road BB when it struck a Honda minivan traveling eastbound on County Road E.

Simpson, a passenger in the minivan driven by William Schaefer, 52, of Madison, was ejected from the van and pronounced dead at the scene by Shawano County coroner Mike Jesse.

Birr, Schaefer and a second passenger in the Schaefer vehicle were transported to area hospitals with unknown injuries; one of them was flown out via Eagle III helicopter.

County Road BB and County Road E are part of a detour route for Highway 22, which is closed between Gillett and Oconto Falls due to construction.

“There’s been more traffic down this stretch because of the detour,” said Janell Townsend, who lives along County Road E. “I’ve seen a lot of close calls here recently.”
