Excerpts from ABC7Chicago.com:
A man died and another was transported to a hospital after a house fire in West Chicago Wednesday night.
Three people were in a three-story house in the 100-block of West Grand Lake Boulevard in West Chicago when a fire broke out at about 10 p.m. Wednesday night. Fire officials believe the fire began in the front of the home and was made worse by the wind and open windows. The porch collapsed and the rest of the home was destroyed.
Firefighters were able to get a 92-year-old man from a second floor bedroom to safety. He was taken to a local hospital. His ex-daughter-in-law who lives with him got out on her own. The woman’s 53-year-old boyfriend died in an upstairs bedroom. Someone driving by the house saw it on fire and started banging on the doors, but by that time the flames had a head start.
The DuPage County Fire Investigation Task Force is listing the cause of the fire as undetermined because at this point they cannot rule out an electrical cause. They do not believe it is suspicious.

9/5/18 WEST CHICAGO – Airplane Nose Gear Failure Emergency Landing at DuPage Airport – Video by Dave Weaver
DETAILS: At 11 a.m. the West Chicago Fire District responded to an emergency standby for a Cessna 340 twin-engine aircraft with a nose gear failure. The pilot and one passenger flew around for approximately 1 1/2 hours to burn off fuel before landing the aircraft at 12:20 p.m. The pilot chose to land on the older runway, Runway 20L, instead of the newer runway, 20R. Neither of the aircraft’s occupants appeared to be injured. Heavy machinery was used to tow the aircraft to a hanger.
Excerpts from Chicago.cbslocal.com:
Firefighters were training when they discovered a smoldering body laying in the grass. The drill turned into a death investigation in the 1300 block of Joliet Street in West Chicago. Investigators were on the scene almost ten hours after the body was found burning in a field. There were a number of boarded up homes on the abandoned property.
Firefighters say they were scheduled to burn the abandoned houses in a controlled burn exercise when they made the gruesome discovery. West Chicago Police say the body was of an adult male. His identity is being withheld until an autopsy is performed and the family is notified.
