Schererville Fire Department news

Excerpts from the nwitimes.com:

Renovations began earlier this year at Schererville Fire Station No. 3, 1949 Springvale Drive. The $1.43 million project includes adding six bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen, living area, a workout facility, an office, and three expanded bays which create space for the tower ladder that didn’t fit in the old facility.

When the third fire station was built in the 1980s, the fire department was all volunteers. Over the years, the department has grown and now includes 18 full-time firefighters and around 40 part-timers.

Expanding the station will allow the fire department to better respond to the east side of the town.

The project was under consideration in early 2019, plans for the expansion of the third fire station were complete later that year, with bids put out for the project in December. A bid was awarded for the project in early 2020, but then the COVID-19 hit, putting the project on hold due to uncertainty surrounding the pandemic.

The project is slated to be complete at the end of the year.

thanks Keith

Schererville Fire Department news

This from Brad Steinweg:

Schererville responded to a fire at El Salto at the intersection of US-30 & US-41 9/13/18. A full still was called and Lake Hills and St. John assisted. Something to note is the roto ray on the Lake Hills engine as its something rarely seen around here.

Schererville (IN) 4th Alarm (more)

This from Kevin Nowaczyk:

Schererville Indiana (MABAS 207) 4th Alarm May 30, 2013, Departments from both Indiana and Illinois (MABAS 24) responded. The fire was located in a 3-story apartment building. Fire was throughout the 3rd floor and extended down to the 2nd floor. Crews made an initial interior attack and found the fire in the attic space extending rapidly. Fire operations soon switched to a defensive mode with 2 tower ladders, 1 ladder pipe, and numerous exterior handlines operating. After the bulk of fire was extinguished, an interior attack was mounted again. Crews continued in the offensive mode through the rest of the operation.
