This from Larry Shapiro:
The Prospect Heights FD was alerted to a house fire around 3AM today (Monday) at 1201 N. Stratford Road, off of Rand Road. While en route they were notified that a 14-year old boy was trapped inside and the other family members were outside. Several police officers attempted to search for the boy but were forced out by heavy fire conditions and smoke.
Arlington Heights Engine 2 was the first unit on-scene with heavy fire in the center of the house. The street is without hydrants and supply lines were dropped to an Arlington Heights street in one direction and to a shopping center across Rand Road at the other end. Water was a problem for a short time as Engine 2 experienced mechanical issues that prevented supplying the lines. Additional lines were supplied from Prospect Heights Tower 9.
A Box Alarm was requested along with several additional ambulances as the two adults from the house and three police officers required medical attention. One ambulance was held for a possible rescue of the missing boy.
It was determined that the boy was not at home and he was later found elsewhere. Two people were transported to the hospital.

This from Fred McCahey:
Has anyone done a special on helmets, particularly the ones with “eagles” on them?In a photo I previously submitted to FireScenes.net, I noticed LT Sutherland had an “Eagle” holding the Lt SS-1 shield in place (posted July 4th 2014). It was rather large and is not seen frequently on current helmets. In fact they seem to be shrinking. Although, in an Erik Haak photo (posted to FireScenes.net 7/7/14) a Truck 41 member has the flattened out Eagle.I am not sure of the lingo, but I’m hoping someone has info on these rather massive looking holders.

If you enjoy viewing photos of fire scenes and you haven’t been checking out the new FireScenes.Net blog that went live one month ago, you’re missing some very interesting posts. But, for Chicago area enthusiasts, there’s a special treat – several ‘never before seen’ images submitted by Eric Haak from Chicago, Harvey, Alsip, and Dolton to name a few. Prior to his submissions to chicagoareafire.com, Eric did not have a means to share his fire scene photos, and he is generously culling through his archives and posting them to FireScenes.Net.
In addition, several other contributors to chicagoareafire.com who frequent the fire action in Detroit are also finding this as a new venue to share images which some of our readers have enquired about in the past. Since this site features Illinois and ‘just over the border’ fires in Wisconsin and Indiana, it’s not really the place for Detroit stuff, so these images are beginning to find their way to the new blog.
