North of the Border

This from Asher Heimermann:

A balloon framed house went up in flames as firefighters from the Caledonia Fire Department and two other Racine County fire departments conducted a controlled house burn at County Road V and 6½ Mile Road in Caledonia, Wisconsin on Wednesday, March 31st. Smoke from the burn could be seen from Interstate 94.

Raymond Fire & Rescue, the South Shore Fire Department, and the Racine Fire Bells were in attendance. An instructor from the Chicago Fire Department was involved in the training.

North of the Border

This from Asher Heimermann:

Raymond Fire & Rescue conducted a house burn along with several Racine County fire departments near 76th Street and Waukesha Road in the Village of Raymond. Wind gusts were between 28 MPH and 33 MPH during the live fire training.

The property owner generously donated the structure to the fire department to use for training purposes before finally burning it to the ground Sunday.

Burn down in Wood Dale, IL 7-6-19 (more)

This from Steve Redick:

This was an area slated for demolition as a large industrial complex is going to be built on this site. The main fire building was an unusually large and modern house. It was very interesting to watch the behavior of the O’Hare noise windows under fire conditions. Also unusual to see two buildings allowed to burn at the same time. Wind conditions made for some interesting fire behavior too. See all photos here:

Burn down in McHenry, IL 3-15-19

This from Steve Redick:

Took this in on Friday (3/15/19). A clubhouse/restaurant at the Chapel Hill Golf Club. Unusual to see a building this large used as a burn down. I believe they had been conducting numerous evolutions here previously and Friday was the burn down to aid in the demolition of the building. I don’t believe anything will be erected in its place. No real firefighting operations to see but I did get to observe some amazing fire behavior and conditions. The collapse of the front entrance overhang was unusual, but I missed it and only got the aftermath. It was interesting to see the tanker setup although it really wasn’t utilized much. The video and all the images can be seen here:

As seen around … Manhattan

This from Eric Haak:

I took advantage of a slow Saturday (6/17) to go see some rigs that I do not normally get an opportunity to see. Far south suburban Manhattan Fire Protection District was training in a fairly large late-1800’s farm house which is currently owned by the park district. Once the training was over, the old house was burned to the ground. It was kind of an interesting setup as there was a historic round barn which needed to be protected so they had Peotone’s Truck 14 set up and ready just in case of an emergency.
