House fire in Arlington Heights, 1-14-20

Just before 4AM on Tuesday January 14, a resident called the Arlington Heights Fire Department to report smoke from a neighbor’s home at 1415 E. Fleming Drive South. A subsequent call from the homeowner advised the fire department of a possible fire in the microwave oven and that the residents had evacuated. Police officers arrived first and found black smoke coming from the house. Engine 4 confirmed smoke showing and almost immediately they had heavy fire in the C-D corner. The alarm was elevated to a Code 4 for the working fire which brought the balance of units from Arlington Heights along with companies from Buffalo Grove.

Three lines were used to extinguish the fire including an exterior line flowing foam. Buffalo Grove Ambulance 26 assessed one of the residents and then transported her to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

A 2nd alarm fire last night for the large tire and car pile in a junk yard. A police officer was on patrol and noticed heavy smoke in the area of 137th St. and Kedzie Ave. Robbins was toned out, with the first engine on-scene reporting a fire, I arrived shortly after the first engine.

An area of approx. 200×100 of nothing but tires, car parts, and cars was burning. Due to a major water problem, a tanker request was made with departments such as Frankfort, Northwest Homer, and Flossmoor arriving to fill the Dixmoor engine that was at the main body of fire. A request for a hose wagon from Chicago was made, which included 6-1-1, Engine 81, and 2-2-6, but they were held up en-route.
