Still and Box Alarm fire in Chicago, 1-30-22

This from Chi-Town Fire Photos:

Sunday night I made it to a fire in the 18th Battalion on Chicago’s westside at 1521 S Kilbourn. Engine 38 arrived to find a 2.5-sty ordinary, vacant building completely boarded up with fire on all floors. Companies had forcible entry issues with steel bars behind the boarded up doors. Once the crews finally made entry, they encountered heavy fire and could not make a push. Battalion 18 ordered companies to go defensive and pulled a box. Both Engine 38 and Engine 113 (first companies) had frozen hydrants on Kilbourn. Engine 99 (3rd due) found a good hydrant a block to the east and fed Engine 38. Engine 95 came up the rear in the alley and deck gunned it. 95’s hydrant guy used 200′ of 4″, broke down a fence, and stretched to a mid-block hydrant on Kenneth. I was fortunate to get some great shots at this job. Full gallery is on our site

Still and Box Alarm fire in Chicago, 12-9-20

This from Chi-Town Fire Photos:

12-9-2020

Chicago Engine Co. 38 landed with a fire in a vacant 3-sty “Red X” building at 1259 s Homan Ave. They had heavy fire throughout the rear of the building and extending up to the third floor. Battalion 14 requested a Still & Box and transitioned the companies to go defensive. Tower 14 & Squad 1 used their master streams and pretty much knocked most of the fire. Engine 23 fed Squad 1 from the rear, and Engine 44 fed Tower 14 from the front.

2-11 Alarm fire in Chicago, 1-17-20

This from Chi-Town Fire Photos:

01-17-2020

Truck Co. 48 reported a fire at 1539 S Hamlin Friday evening (1/17/20) during a bad snow storm. Building was a vacant, 3-sty ordinary, 30’x75′. Engine 109 was the first engine since Engine 38 was tied up on an EMS run. Battalion 14 arrived and boxed it right away. Companies went defensive due to forcible entry problems and fire being on all three floors already. Engines 38 & 99 were the box engines and both were feeding the master streams (TL5 & SS1). 2-2-4 pulled a 2-11 Alarm shortly after for manpower purposes. I don’t believe the 2-11 engines were used. Wind gusts up to 35mph and heavy snow for the duration of fire which made it very difficult to fight this job.

Building collapse in Chicago, 9-12-19

This from Chi-Town Fire Photos:

Here are a few shots from the Still & Box TRT response at 3959 w Harrison on Thursday. It appeared a construction crew was replacing the sidewalk in the rear of the building which made the rear collapse. It was a vacant building and it appeared there was not any injuries.

2-11 Alarm fire in Chicago, 2-24-19

This from Chi-Town Fire Photos:

2-24-19

Ambulance 77 reported smoke from the roof of a 3-sty building Sunday afternoon at 1838 S. St. Louis. The MFAO filled it out and gave the 14th Battalion a working fire right away. Engine 38 arrived and had heavy fire showing from a 3-sty brick, three-flat in the rear, extending to the exposure to the south. Battalion 14 boxed it shortly after his arrival. Chicago was experiencing very high winds gusting upwards of 50MPH. After trying to make the 3rd floor, the chief pulled all companies out of the building to regroup. Multiple handlines were dropped from 38 and 109. I believe that the 2-11 was requested for manpower.

Working fire in Chicago, 6-9-17

This from Drew Gresik:

The 18th Battalion battled a working fire in a red-X building at 3849 on Flournoy. Chicago Police helicopter ‘PH1’ called it in on the Zone and reported that there was a house on fire and it was really cooking. Engine 95 deck-gunned it on arrival as they had heavy fire showing from the 2, and then companies led out (2) 2.5” lines while performing an exterior attack. A third line was led out as Squad 1’s Snorkel was set up and flowing water in the vacant lot on Side D.

5-11 Alarm fire in Chicago, 11-5-16 (more)

Photos from Steve Redick of the 5-11 Alarm fire in Chicago, 11-5-16

Saturday early am at 26th & Kostner. Large vacant industrial building well involved on arrival. Several collapses occurred early in the incident. Access was good with large vacant lots on 2 sides of the complex. Several tower ladders and master streams were used. Most of the building was down by the time I arrived, the uninvolved section later burned in spectacular fashion a few hours after I “picked up”. There was no indication at the time I left that the fire had invaded that area. All the images and video can be seen here

5-11 Alarm fire in Chicago, 11-5-16 (more)

More images from Josh Boyajian of the 5-11 Alarm fire in Chicago, 11-5-16

I got an early jump on the 5-11 this morning. As soon as i got to Ogden & Austin, I could see the glow and header. Place was really rocking. I took numerous photos that i will be uploading to my site in the next couple days. Here are a few good ones i edited this morning. I left around 0400, and it looked to be, the other half of the building burned after i left.

Still & Box Alarm fire in Chicago, 7-30-16

This from Eric Haak:

At 4:45 on Saturday (7/30), the Main Fire Alarm Office gave the 18th Battalion a working fire response to the 1500 block of south Kostner.  Engine 38 boxed the fire shortly after arrival and reported they had an exposure problem and a burn victim.  I arrived with just a little fire left in the attic so the pictures are mostly of rig placement.  The first couple of images are of Engine 95 stretching a line to the second floor in the rear.  You can see in the third image that there was fire blowing out a couple of windows at the very front of side B, although one of the windows is not visible through the bushes.  The Still & Box was struck out in about 20 minutes.

Chicago working fire, January 7, 2015

This from Drew Gresik:

Since it’s been a pretty slow month in terms of significant working fires in the city, so I thought I’d share some images from a Working Fire at 1416 S Ridgeway that occurred on January 7th of this year, and a couple hours after a Still & Box about seven blocks away at 1514 S Kostner. Very cold that day. As always, check out my site for more images! www.chi-townfirephotos.smugmug.com
